For me, always a great contest between Lancaster and Douglas. But after reading about both their characters in more recent years, Lancaster was most definitely the man to admire.

I don't admire either actor, i like both their movies, but Kirk, to me, was better after i saw him in The bad and the Beautiful. There was no question after that. Burt seemed theatrical to me in his later roles, but i did like his early ones the best

@@girlonfire981 What I'm judging them is on this (which I probably shouldn't), is that stories abound whereby Douglas was an a hole, whereas Lancaster was most certainly not. Who would I rather have a 'hypothetical' beer with? Most definitely, Lancaster.
@anthonythomas1504

Both were Studio players meaning they did all kinds of roles, like Stewart and Fonda too. Some clicked and some didn't. A lot depends on the age and sex of the viewer. As a boy I favored Douglas because he had his now (cliched) clenched-teeth rage. I didn't and still don't like the circus movie Burt starred in. But Birdman of Alcatraz hit me at the age when us boys were into gangsters and G-men and prison breaks. Elmer Gantry, Come Back Little Sheba tipped the scale for Burt for me in later years. Kirk was kind of reduced to his chin dimple.

Europe tore Burt from the claws of Holywood, where he would have remained a beefcackling actor till his dying days. Legendary directors like Bertolucci, Negrin, Visconti! A handsome, dignified man. All America had left was the icky Kirk Douglas (at least his son Michael showed SOME talent 🙂)

Funny how so many people are happy to hear about, and often want to hear about an actor's heterosexual life, their marriages and children, but when talk of someone's gay or bisexual nature of some actors comes out, then the prejudices of some fans come out. "They don't want to hear it" is the frequent refrain. Every actor is not gay. But many are, and many are bisexual. In the early decades of film actors had to hide or supress their homosexuality or their careers would be over. Whether we are talking about Lancaster, Cary Grant, Tyrone Power or Katherine Hepburn, the reality of their sexual orientation and the pressure to even go as far as live as heterosexual was intense. And the studios manufactured the myths that they were heterosexual to keep up their popularity with the movie-going public. And the publib bought those myths, hook, line and sinker. Prior to Stonewall in 1969, most gay men got married to women, functioned as best they could within those marriages in a compartmentalized fahsion but usually led secret other lives on the side. It was even more true with many actors. Thank goodness those days are mostly over. Today great actors like Matt Bomer and Andrew Scott don't have to hide their homosexuality while they portray leading (straight) men on the screen. The FBI maintained a file on Burt Lancaster and when released as well as some interviews with members of the Lancaster revealed that Lancaster suffered from life-long depression, was bisexual and had many short-term relationships with men, not only between his three failed marriages but during them.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never given any thought as to whether Burt Lancaster had plastic surgery or not. He was 63 in 1976 when the film was released, so this would not be a shocking revelation. B.F.D. However, I am not hearing Bernardo Bertolucci say this, I'm hearing someone say he said this, and they are both deceased. They are not alive to confirm or deny things said about them. I can find no Bernardo Bertolucci interviews on the internet where he mentions Burt Lancaster at all. Anyone can look up Burt Lancaster's movie career on IMDb and again, he is not alive to confirm or deny the stories about his affairs with men or women.

(I have always thought that had the "Batman" series been made in the 50's, he would have been perfect for the role!) While some of his portrayals may have been a little "over the top", he never failed to entertain! It's hard to believe that such a handsome man would ever need extensive plastic surgery!

You know, I am tired of hearing how every actor out there is actually gay. I am sure all actors have plenty of chances to be gay, but I am sick of hearing about it. Sometimes it may not even be true although I am sure some of them were gay, drug addicts and many other negative things. However, I also think these people or forces out there who make these videos enjoy tearing down everyone's favorite movie star and dragging their image through some tarnished reality about them. These people who make these videos can't even get the right picture to match who they are alking about so the whole thing seems like trash. Probably only Burt Lancaster himself knows how much is true or not.

@@raquelgarvin8391 How do YOU, the one who said Lancaster was gay, know he was? Homosexuality at that time was NEITHER socially acceptable nor seen as normal. And it is still not perceived as normal as the animal kingdom instinctively knows 2 genders are essential for every species on earth for a purpose. Gays excessively lie trying to normalize homosexuality, to the point where some idiot tried to say Abraham Lincoln was gay@!?# No, it is not naturally normal. Ancient Greek soldiers, and where women were scarce resorted to gay activities mostly out of necessity.

You are incorrect. He was bisexual, and it isn't news. It has been known for many years.

Cut it off early. Seeing picture that were not Burt Lancaster but other actors. You needed to do better editing.
