I sat beside Mr. Boorman on a flight. I recognised him instantly, but was too awestruck / shy to introduce myself. What a legend !

Understandable. If I were ever in that situation hopefully I'd muster up the boldness to at least converse with him over "Excalibur" as well as "Deliverance."

It is one of the very few films that has had a cultural impact. It will forever be etched into any person's mind that has ever seen it. There has never been a movie quite like it. It is a shocking, scary, masterpiece.

My parents thinking this was a movie about a float trip and never in there lives supposing it was a movie for adults took the whole family to the drive in to see this movie. They really had never seen anything like this before, they did not know at that in 1972 you couldn't just take the kids to any movie. They learned that night. Somewhere after a few f words the speaker was thrown out of the car and we left. We then got hamburgers somewhere and went to park to eat them and my mother cried tears because she had taken her 11 and 12 year old kids to this movie. I just now in 2022 watched the whole movie and I see what my mother cried about. She never even saw the rape scene she was concerned with the awful language in the first few minutes. It was awful and still is. Hollywood thinks everyone uses the language they us but it is not so. I have worked in construction for well over 40 years and I can tell you there are a lot of people who do not talk like this. Some do of course but to depict all men as talking this way when they get together is very untrue. God help us excape hollywood.

It's a great movie, but I get your point. Good thing your parents decided to leave before the rape scene. I first saw that scene was I was in my late teens and it was traumatizing. Can't imagine how it would effected an 11-year-old, especially watching it with their parents. Cringe. The movie was rated R, so I'm surprised your parents didn't know that the material would get into adult territory.
@unfortunatebeamАй бұрын
The MPAA rating system was in place since 1968. Your parents should have noticed the film was rated R and not for children. As for your mention of the swearing in this film, it's small potatoes compared to the number of Fs that would fly in later movies, actually I don't think the language was as bad as some other films even in that time like Boys in the Band or Joe or French Connection. Btw, if you work around guys of a certain working class Irish/Scot background, guaranteed you're gonna get a lot of swearing, and it always was that way more or less from what I heard from older folks.

Burt Reynolds Didn't look after himself (physically) as he aged & he's Trying to Do a Bob Newheart impersonation....

Burt's injuries caught up with him. He had over 60 broken bones, multiple knee surgeries on each knee, back surgery, spleen removed, etc. I think he ultimately had some nerve damage in his back they could not fix, hence the cane. Then, once your heart goes, all your strength goes with it. Muscle strength you need to keep all that bone/joint pain at bay. Not a good combo for Burt. He is missed 💗

Too bad they couldn't have helped the community some how. Try to give back. Maybe scholarship money, summer camps for underprivileged, a basketball court, a dentist office etc. I feel the actors should have given back somehow. I feel sorry for the people in that town.

It's almost like people today aren't even qualified to discuss scenes like the infamous one in this movie. Not sure if they were back when it first came out, but apparently no one now can have a serious adult talk about a male rape scene. The only thing I ever hear them saying about it is how women got it long before men...oh gee, what an analysis.

As much as I love Deliverance and these great actors, this interview was unwatchable. Jon Voight was the only one having a good day that day. Usually Burt gives a great interview, but he must have been in a bad mood or not feeling well. As for Ned, good lord, he was all over the map.

Deliverance is nearly the perfect film, except for the cliff climbing day-for-night sequences. So ham handed, those mushy masks (one of which bleeds onto Voight's face) takes the viewer right out of it. How could that have been reviewed and approved? Or was it due to the shrunken budget? I have the same reaction each time I watch this otherwise masterwork.
@unfortunatebeamАй бұрын
What mushy masks?
@jimmerhardyАй бұрын
@@unfortunatebeam They 'masked' him to darken the background. A common technique back then but done poorly, sloppy here. The director should have demanded a better job. Watch that sequence again. It really takes you out of the tension. Too bad.

@@jimmerhardy Hmm maybe I will. I didn't really notice that at first or that it distracted too much. Anyway I don't think it would take away from the overall greatness of the movie.
