If the issue is fuel gauge not working the troubleshooting isn't that difficult. You need the wiring diagrams for your bus from the manufacturer. Thomas was easy to get these from as PDF. Can't remember what brand your bus is. You need to verify that the tank sending unit is working or replace that. Verify continuity on the wiring to the fuel gauge from the sending unit. Check with multimeter for the values of voltage or resistance that are specified for that gauge. If the wires produce the right electrical readings replace the gauge.

Just a suggestion would be to use one hook in the middle, cause you have a stick mounted to it to keep it straight. ( less hooking to hold them up ). ( just a thought ). Keep posting !!! I have to say , the curtain do look real good !!!!

Perfect timing, a year late, I am putting in my water and grey tanks this weekend using a similar technique.
@angryschnauzer3 жыл бұрын
Quick, cheap and easy tip on the water tank nuts to keep them from backing off, use two on each. It's called double nutting and usually is for removing stuck bolts but can also be used to secure nuts. Basically, run the second nut up to touch the first and tighten them to each other (i.e. tighten one while loosening the other). This creates a friction fit between the two nuts so that one can't move without the other moving. I'm not the most poetic person, so if my instructions aren't clear, here's a quick video by someone else that I found that shows what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4eXdZeifc-rodk My wife and I are at the beginning of our own bus build and love watching you two with yours! Keep up the hard work and videos, we watch every one!
@JimmyandNatalie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So we didn’t show it in the video, but we used lock washers on every nut and each bolt has at least two nuts on it. We might reinforce it with some JB Weld down the line, but we want to at least finish the plumbing before we commit to that That’s exciting though, good luck with your build! 😄
@helihead112 жыл бұрын
@@JimmyandNatalie double nutting will actually give you better security than the lock washers which you should also use plus they are easy to add anytime and will give you an extra nut if needed while your out and need a nut for some other reason. We used double nutting the most when the item being tightened against could get deformed when the supports are tightened.

You could put strong magnets 🧲 on the top corners of the window shades and when you pull it up it can just attach automatically to the metal corners of the window frames. Plus you would be able to have control over how much of the windows you want covered (halfway,all the way etc…).
@JimmyandNatalie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We actually really considered doing this, but we’ve seen too many people struggle getting strong enough magnets that it ends up just falling 😅 So we just opted for the secure hooks so we have peace of mind that they won’t fall overnight
@allmomomosthomebus38953 жыл бұрын
You may want to put a metal plate below the tank to avoid scraping the plastic on roadways like RR crossings or pulling into properties with an incline. Let the steel plate be sacrificial as a grinding warning.
@allmomomosthomebus38953 жыл бұрын
Also you may want to add a heat shield around your exhaust near the tanks. It could feasibly damage the HDPE with heat. Or wrap the exhaust.
@JimmyandNatalie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! There’s a good chance we’ll add it if it becomes a problem. Currently the largest tank sits higher up than the exhaust pipe so I’m not too worried about scraping 🤞

If your bolting stuff together , you need to use Lock Tite on your bolts to keep them from vibrating loose.
@JimmyandNatalie3 жыл бұрын
We might add that down the road! I’ve got a lock washer on every nut right now, and every channel strut has 2 nuts. I might add something like that in the future once I know I’m not going to be adjusting the height of the tanks anymore.

At least the white water tanks that are hanging down behind the bus match the roof. You can put all your social media links on the tanks so people following can join in.

@kateandjanasoutdooradventu35533 жыл бұрын
Great video as usual guys. You would think a fuel gauge would not be so difficult to fix. We have really enjoyed your bus build videos and your trip to Barnwell State Park. We are also converting a school bus although our progress has been a bit slower than yours. We are trying to have our bus ready to roll by the summer of 22. We have a six window Collins cutaway we've been working on for about two years now. We love the idea y'all showed for the window coverings. That is something we've been contemplating and ruminating over for a while. We know we want to use Reflectix and a heavy duty blackout type fabric. Would you be willing to share the particulars on the ones you made? Such as the brand/type of fabric and a little more how you constructed them? If so we would greatly appreciate it. Hope to see you on the road when we get our bus completed (if there is such a thing as completed...LOL).
@JimmyandNatalie3 жыл бұрын
Yes! We would love to see you on the road! For the window coverings, the brand of fabric we're using is Ottertex (it's on Amazon: amzn.to/36ZnEWo), but we'll make sure to cover the details on how we're constructing them in a future video. 😄 Thanks so much for watching, and good luck with your build! 💚

You guys are doing a great job both in your build and video editing. But I do agree with the others with issues about your Fresh Water Tanks especially the first tank location. On the weldless installation , great idea. Your tanks will need more protection on corners and bottom at some point. Using the Unistrut for support with threaded rods great. A cheap way to protect corners would be to use old metal Bed Frames. (older ones may be thicker steel.) I realize you are basing the green light for the location for WT #1 on the fact its 4+ inches higher than muffler. What happens when you have 800 lbs of water in the tanks and you turn off a paved road onto a not-paved road. Those rear tires will possibly drop into a wash out when leaving pavement. I apologize if my second guessing is offensive. ( In full disclosure I do not own a bus Yet) I am in the dreaming stage but I have watched a lot of bus builds and it does not make me an expert by any means. If I may ask why under the bus instead of inside under the bed which is common? Thanks to you Jimmy & Natalie for sharing your build with us. PS Looking forward to that kitchen counter video with Hidden TV. :) :)

@Billy Broach I've been doing a lot of thinking since you mentioned this, and actually went to Lowe's today to pick up some angle irons, rubber, and sheet metal to add a protective layering. I would like to add more in the future, but the material cost is a big factor right now... I think at least what I've got now should *hopefully* protect against most scraps and any heat coming from the exhaust. 🤞Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to write this out 😄
