Your videos were such a big help in doing my Subaru engine swap. Thanks for all the technical info.

Another prep people might consider at this point is the oil separator plate located to the right of the rear main seal. If it is plastic it needs to be replaced with an updated "metal" separator plate available from Subaru. The plastic plates leak and can only be changed with the motor out. Loving this video series. JC.

Thats a good point. I've never seen one fail but there are several folks that recommend it. Another thing one might want to consider if you have the timing belt apart is to do the head gaskets. Its simple and could save a lot of hassle in the future (although its not a huge job on a swapped VW as there is great access to the head bolts while still bolted in the van/bus).

Hey busaru! I have an impreza and a bay window, assuming I want to swap the Subaru engine from my impreza into the bay window, what do you think the cost would be? Also is there a full parts list somewhere?

Did you end up retapping the hole for the oil pressure sending unit to 1/8th npt threads?

the oil preasure sending unit you put on, -where would i be able to order one, or is there a scu number for it?

Which one do you recommend: The STI engine or the non turbo Subaru? Thank you!

Hi Mick the new clutch is a Subaru or Volkswagen?

Great job! Another question. When I used to mess with 4G63's (DSM) I'd bypass the throttle body coolant lines to help keep the intake air just a little bit cooler. I know this isn't a turbo but wondering if it'd help at all.
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
That's the way I run on my 73, but for the series I chose to keep things as stock as possible.

Busaru I have a question about what clutch kit you used for your Volkswagen Beetle project the reason I ask is because I'm doing the same thing or something similar to it and I need your information
@MrElguapo459 жыл бұрын
I really like what you are doing I'll like to know where do you get your kit for mounting the engine. At the transmission thanks
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
Hi German, I use the KEP engine adapter - very solid.
@Dauntless24410 жыл бұрын
Nice work. One thing to note though, the throttle body coolant supply isn't necessary, it can just be bypassed.
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm running no coolant through the throttle body of my 73 and it's not affecting anything. Some don't agree though, so I wanted to show how you could keep it stock. Thanks for offer of simplicity - I'm always looking for tricks like that.

Hey how's it going, I'm completely new to all of this stuff I have a 72 vw Riviera that's manual and I'm planning on purchasing a 92 subaru legacy that's automatic, would I need to buy a different computer since I'm going from an automatic subie to a manual vw transmission? Is it even possible? Thanks for your time
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
Hey Mach, the computer doesn't care which trans it's mated to. The auto uses a transmission control unit that you cut away from the harness but that's about all the difference there is.

awesome! thanks so much man, keep up the great channel

Can you help ott on what adapter plate nombre is needed . I look on the KEP listing i dont want to mix anything from the adapter plate to flywheel to clutch . Thanks in advance .
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Hey Remichiv0, For the 091 transmission I use KEP's 228mm flywheel and adapter plate (VW-Subaru). For older transmissions that use the 200mm clutch, you will need their 220mm flywheel.
@Remichiv010 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much . You are the best . The only one out there with that same conversion a what i am doing, great help . Quality video + i like your style very nice . ( i am using a EJ22 92-94 i will flip intake around 180* .

I would like to know a bit more about the oil pressure sending unit. Part number or kit you got it from, etc. Also if you want to have a water temp gauge and perhaps voltage, what is the best way to go about that?
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Take a look at the "Gauge" episode, it details the part number for the multigauge (which comes with the senders for oil pressure and water temp).

isn't the transmission of T2 same with vw beetle 1303? i was planning to convert my vw 1303 to boxer diesel. but i know it has to have conversion when it comes to transmission and engine installation. is that adaptor plate also available here in the philippines? did you custom ordered it or something?? thanks. love your documentary.
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments. Your transmission should have the same bolt pattern as the buses. I would order the adapter plate from Rocky Mountain Westy or KEP. I'm sure they can ship to the Philippines, it'll probably just be expensive. Good luck on your swap!
@lienbreichtdi75879 жыл бұрын
Busaru thanks i'll visit their page. by the way i was i bit bothered of the width and length of subaru ee20. does the size difference is too much? i was bothered i may cut too much to my 1303. thanks.

This could be done in a bug? Are you planing on doing another swap líke this? Which transmission was on the bus for this engine
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, I have the 091 4 speed in the 1977 Bus and I have a 3 speed auto in the 73 bus I have. This swap would almost be easier in a bug. I hope to do one eventually. If I can come across a bug in reasonable shape I'll probably do a swap.

hi I am putting a impreza sport non turbo into 68 early bay with the gearbox be ok or not do I have to change wheels for the gearing top end speed
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Is that the 2.0? If so you'll be around 125 HP or so. I'd drive it gently until you find an 091 transmission. I would wait on wheels until you drive it and see what the gearing is like. I don't drive 75 so I'm okay with stock gearing.
@williamdobson686210 жыл бұрын
what is your thoughts on going with the Subaru gearbox and your videos and explanations are fantastic keep up the great work pure class its a 2.0
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
william dobson Subaru gearboxes are fantastic. If you've ever driven one, you know they shift super smooth (most of the time) and are geared well. I've never installed one in a VW though, and the SubaruGears kit is VERY expensive, so I'd love to hear your thoughts if you decide to go that direction.

+Randy Lucas I'm sure they can, and some vendors supply them with the flywheel. Give Outfront Motorsports a call - they deal with adapter and flywheels all the time.
