People can speak and act in a day that it appears they are good at what they do. However a physical model that represents that person's work is what proves that person's talents. Planes aren't my passion and I can see this project is such a massive hand made undertaking and it looks factory product that rivals a F1 car. Great Work. One day there will be a carbon fiber statue of you somewhere

How cool! The fairing covering the wing to fuselage gap on the top of the wing reminds me of the "Gullwing" Stinson. Interestingly, my exposure to that airplane was as a 16 year old pumping gas and washing airplanes in Southern California in the 1968-72 years. My boss had taught James Arness (Marshall Dillon of Gunsmoke) how to fly. At one point he purchased a Stinson Reliant with a P&W R-985 (I guess it was maybe the SR-10F Reliant or perhaps a modified plane). The conjunction with Mike's desire to spend time with family and friends getting Scrappy "in the dirt" was James Arness' primary purpose for the Stinson. His son Rolf was a world class surfer. He and Rolf would load up the plane with camping gear and surfboards and fly down to the Pacific side of Baja California. When they found the right combination of surf and suitable beach to land on, they would land and spend days there. Rolf would surf and James would do some surf-fishing. James was a very nice man. I have no doubt he would be looking Mike up were he still alive today!

I have to admit that I haven’t missed a single day checking for a new video. So, Scrappy was fully digitized. I am hoping (betting) that the file makes it to Horizon Hobby.
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't imagine what a foamie would be able to do with double slats and flaps on flaps, but on the other hand, I doubt those particular features with their complicated mechanisms would make it into final production. It's not like most RC planes could even utilize those features, since so many of them fly so slow as it is, and many can transfer enough lift from the thrust of the prop when the wings start giving out to keep flying.
@king-o-vetts98993 жыл бұрын
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper I have several large foamies and what I would like to see is a leading edge that represents the slats in the up position but include the flaperon function. Just for fun I like to imagine Draco (the full scale version) with the double-slatted wing. I’ll bet it happens.
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper3 жыл бұрын
@@king-o-vetts9899 Oh, flaperons are easy to program in your radio if you have an extra channel to spare on your receiver for independent ailerons, though I don't really recommend it. Just mix the aileron and flap channels, play around with the mix and limits until you get it where you want it. I do it all the time with mine, but I do the opposite, (sometimes called a crow's foot). The ailerons travel upward when the flaps go down to give it additional stability and tip-stall resistance at slow speed. I tried the flaperons once with a AT-502 foamie, since I wanted it to be more scale like my actual 502, but it got so hard to control at slow speed even with gyro stabilization that I had to maintain a higher speed to keep it stable on the roll and yaw axis, if I got it just a little bit too slow the plane would tuck a wing under and dive to the ground...not a good trait if there's any wind at all present. So really, I was able to fly slower without flaperons just because I didn't have to fight a wobbly and unpredictably suicidal plane. Some features just don't scale down to RC size in quite the same way, because flaperons are great on my 502 but absolute trash for an RC 502.
