@@BushCampingTools interesting, what your favorite extrema ratio knife?
@BushCampingTools4 жыл бұрын
@@protector108 Ah that's a great question and a tough one to answer. This particular model I actually use a lot. It's very robust, easy to keep sharp and u can not accidentally drop it as the grip is good even with wet hands. But the Good old Fulcrum S is still one of my favorite knives, easy too to sharpen due to a simple blade geometry. Doberman 4 is great and also I use a lot the RAOII. But all of these I mention are never all taken it at once I use them under different environments and for different things. Certainly, one of the most popular models of theirs is the Shrapnel and the big brother of it.

I just bought a Desert version to complement my black MK 2.1 based on this video. After many years of waiting, I decided I need the desert version also. Quality impeccable over the years, the knife is truly a collector's piece! I believe this is one of the very best designs they have! Hope Extrema Ratio reads this!

Тhey did a great job with this knife. It is one of my favourites from them. it is extremely strong too (i know this from some foolish abuse i have given mine over the years). Unfortunately from a collector's point of view, my blade is far too marked up LOL! Although my box and everything is in mint condition. BTW what is the serial number on your desert camo model?
@andrashavas2 жыл бұрын
@@BushCampingTools Your photos along with the Fulcrum Desert made me wonder. Does this knife look better used than in pristine condition???!! However I would just keep mine unused. I have been wanting this for many years, yet the good company here brought me a black one long time back after more than a month of waiting saying there was no desert one. Want it or not? So i went with it. But the yearning never stopped. So now I have both. That is why I only order now from reputable international companies from Germany and Italy. Actually the desert looks like an Italian fashion style brand! Very nice: C0105T.., 2021, lot 107.. I was also contemplating on getting the Fulcrum full version Desert, but I have the S, which is 3 cm shorter. But your photo of the bashed fulcrum really had me thinking. I think you should post it somewhere on ERs facebook, because that is what that knife is all about...

Thank you again for a review of a great and expensive knife from extrema ratio! I love your precise review and that you really put the knife trouth a hard use, you show what these knifes are made for so i enjoyed every second, also thanks to your camera assistant. You are the reason why i bought two Extrema Ratio knifes in the last couple of weeks, i used them quite a lot and i can say i never had used a better knife worth every penny you get what you pay for because Extrema Ratio has such high standarts tough, reliable, perfect ergonomic and so on. I have one question, where do you live/filmed this (Country) the nature is wonderful and quiet in your place. Have a nice day :)

Hi, firstly, thanks for you kinds words about my camera assistant, without him I could not bring you these labour intensive (but a lot of fun making them) video reviews. As for where I review any of the products here: Some as you may see are reviewed in tropical environments, some arid environments and this one has been conducted outside of Australia in one of my "secrete" locations in Europe. I'm glad my reviews have been of use to you. Stick around for upcoming reviews!

@BushCampingTools4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for watching. Yes this is a very strong knife indeed and a very useful blade shape too. I guess that comes as no surprise since it it really a beefed up version of a classic.
@willieboy30114 жыл бұрын
Always enjoy the setting and scenery, as well as the field test of the knife. For a military styled knife, one expects the guard. Some users do not like them, since they interfere some with finer carving. I think for shaving wood, making a sharp point on a stick, or basic cutting this is not a problem. Plus, there is a tactical use for a guard. I cannot stand knives without some guard, as ones hand will likely slip across the blade especially after a liquid gets on it. Good point about pommel. Also the survival knife cavity in the handle used to be pretty common in the survivalist era of the 80s in the US. This serves a purpose of small storage. It is not standard with bushcraft knives so common today. The steel is not considered a high end steel by many; however, I have knives with it, and I like it fine. It sharpens easily and is more corrosion resistant than many steels. Bohler has an excellent reputation, but the knife is over $400 USD, which puts it into a class with a Busse. This is expensive. I realize the price may be cheaper in other countries due to trade agreements, custom duties, etc. Regardless, you review knives that others do not. Keep it up.

Always thought the original Ka bar design is nice but something missing. Extrema Ratio created one that’s even stronger, with a steel that I like, and a handle material that I don’t dislike (don’t like leather on the handles). Thank you again for a honest review.
@BushCampingTools Жыл бұрын
Hi there and thanks so much for watching. Yes, this is certainly one tough knife and I also think it is a very good improvement over the original for sure. I'm not a fan of leather handled knives, too much care is required for a long lasting knife, if you want it to be used and last maybe 20 plus years IMHO.

No problem! BTW is the tang a stick tang? Rat tang?
@BushCampingTools6 жыл бұрын
Hi, It's a stick tang approx. 13mm wide. The inner profile of the FRN handle is exactly flush (ie it's also rectangular) with the tang, so there is no movement whatsoever. I'm sure the FRN grip adds to the overall strength of this beast.
@BushCampingTools6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I told you the wrong measurement. I pulled the handle and measure the width of the tang properly and it is 16mm wide and under the guard it is much wider. I'll be publishing pictures soon of this in an article on my blog soon. I'll make a post on the FaceBook page when the blog is done.

Thanks a lot for the great review! I love watching your ER videos. There are very few reviews of this knife out there (because of the high price I guess). I own the desert version too but I haven't used it yet.. How does it compare with other ER knives like the Dobermann 4 and the Fulcrum S in terms of toughness?
@BushCampingTools6 жыл бұрын
Hi, firstly thanks so much for your kind comments. I would have no problems if this was my only knife on some deserted island. I think it is very tough and a very useful blade.The FRN handle will be very strong too. Some simplistic reviews (they didn't really review it at all in my opinion) suggested that the "stick tang" would be weak, that is pure rubbish. You saw what i did with this knife, it is military tough for sure. Now comparing to the Fulcrum S. I think for soldiers or people who want a very easy knife design (but is super tough) to sharpen, then the straight edge of the Fulcrum S is a good choice (and of course not as long as the Fulcrum- for better carry. The ER MK2.1 will require more skill but not much more than what is required to sharpen a Fulcrum and the Dobermann IV, will require the most skill to sharpen if necessary in the field. The Dobermann IV would function better as a hunting/come hard use camp knife and it too is a great choice. In terms of comfort, the Fulcrum S and the Dobermann IV are more comfortable due to the ergonomic grip of the FORPRENE, however, in greasy hands, the FRN grip, although not uncomfortable will provide the best grip under extreme usage. The FRN grip achieves, I believe some relief from shock absorption (despite it being non elastomeric) via the reduced tang, whereas the FORPRENE grips of the other two knives really reduce shock to the hand from vibrations. I think these kinds of things should be taken into account when trying to compare these two knives to the MK2.1. I think I will have my MK2.1 for some years to come!
@rawphaelelpapi51495 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to explain. I get what you're saying. I wish they would have made the handle out of forprene while keeping the ''Grenade''-like design, that would have been the perfect version of this knife to me. I guess I just love that forprene material too much lol. I hope you keep up the good work and review the new ER knives when released! @@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools5 жыл бұрын
@@rawphaelelpapi5149 Hi, yes I reckon they could have used a hard Forprene alloy and it would have absorbed some shock but as u say still kept that grenade like look to it but maybe we are both wrong and the mechanics of it may not allow it to be very strong. Maybe I will ask some of my engineering friends if I remember.

Hi ! Sorry to ask tons of questions but... =) Can you plase tell me: - where is the balance point ? - does the spine scraps firesteel ? Thanx in advance. Regards !
@BushCampingTools3 жыл бұрын
Not at all, do not be sorry! No this spine is ever so slightly smooths and you can not scrape a steel with it, however, you can definitely use the metal plate at the butt cap to do this. I've done it many times. This is a tough and very strong knife, one of my favourites! The balance point is at the guard.

Hi thanks for watching. Fair play! For me I use it quite a lot out in the bush and as I type this LOL, it's still strapped to my side from a day out fishing on a river nearby plus a bit of hunting (although not used for hunting). There is nothing I can't do with it where I am at the moment. In the water every day, the handle is supper grippy and I don't have to worry about it getting wet because unlike micarta and or wood it simple des not absorb water. Of course it certainly isn't the be all end all, it just works for me. It's basically edc at the moment 24/7 including in the shower, without spelling it out LOL.
