Also You can use dry fibrous barks of palm to turn into a simple, compact and useful tinder to set the fire, because it's very soft and helps a lot, great vídeo cheers ✌️

I always find it satisfying just watching you lighting fires with your skills. I keep meaning to get a steel and one of those rods you use. Parked up next to loch in Scotland last year, started raining as I was trying to light a fire, rummaged in the bushes pulling out dry bracken, had some twigs and some timber I found on a beach, couldn't get lit with a match so out came the blow torch from the van, bingo 🤣. I did think, Becky would be proud of me haha

What a thrill on a Sunday morning to see Becky's beautiful smiling face, reaffirming something I believe most of us sometimes forget about,we wouldn't survive for long without fire. Learning and practicing different methods only increases our survivablity in times of crisis. Thank you Becky for this important reminder, with a fabulous demo to boot. I love watching all the little tricks you continue to pass on.

I have tried making AMADOU char-cloth... what a recipe. Just found the name so cool, comes from Horse Hoof Fungus and skinning the layers and boiling, only doing that once. So now i use 100% cotton face cloths, dish towels, nice thick and fluffy catches a spark super easy. On a sunny day, magnifying glass with the char cloth, boom red-hots everywhere. I will call my next dog AMADOU. Cheers!!

a very good explanation for beginners and advanced users alike. I also advocate wearing glasses at all times when doing anything with stone and steel, eyesight is a precious thing and it's just not worth the risk. May I suggest a more gentle approach when striking though, a glancing blow is all that is required, adjusting the striker as required, orientating to the edge to achieve sparks. This way it preserves the edge as much as possible. One does not have to go hard and as your skill increases you'll find you will you won't be hitting hard at all, just gentle glancing blows and generating showers of sparks. I really enjoyed your tutorial. I envy your ability to find flint, here in Australia that's just not possible.

Brill video mate. Looking forward to seeing your views on water filtering, or purification. I have the Sawyer Mini's, the Carodyn Befree and a webtex straw, but have now found the GRAYL Geopress a game changer. Bulkier, but no skanky taste, no taste of plastic like in the Katodyn Befree.....be interesting to see where your views stand since your video with your dad on water filtratjon/purification.

@@GirlOutdoors I understand. You would need to be by a river of sorts. Here, in Ohio we have some rocks but not like Colorado or other States. If you have a lot of flint, how about trying to do some flint arrow head making?
