in fire places they used to mix cow poo in with the lime wash because it makes the paint elastic so it last longer moving with heat contraction. was on time team. outstanding build. have subbed because this is me and the kids thing. great stuff

So long as it is not over 25 square metres and a permanent structure it seems that planning permission is not required

Off grid. Rocket stove in the middle. I can't do it here in SW england, might have to move somewhere else, I have a budget of about 80K including buying the land

If you are able to, adding crushed terracotta in with the lime and sand makes the concrete a lot more durable due to the pozzolanic properties of the fired clay reacting with the calcium hydroxide in the slaked lime. The Romans would substitute the pozzolana (volcanic ash) with crushed terracotta if the ash wasn't present in their location. In addition, the Romans had a specific way of mixing the concrete at high temperatures in a vessel where the quick lime was mixed directly in with the rest of the ingredients using as little water as possible to maintain strength. Adding the quicklime in directly caused it to have some clumps of un-hydrated quicklime integrated in as aggregate. But when the concrete cracks and the clumps are exposed to rainwater, they hydrate and seal the crack up. So the concrete basically heals itself.

Pegs was the plan but I had a few spare nail's and got lazy.i mix hay with my mud bricks not with these lime and sand I thought they would be fine without it but I was wrong they were a little fragile.they will harden more over time . Thanks for watching 👍

Paddy, I’m trying to memorise all these brilliant tips, in case something big happens and I need to head for the hills... Here in Aust, there’s no water apart from water pipes, and the outback ground is as hard as ROCK. All the bush wood is hardwood (gum). Good for burning, but not bending... we’d have to make an A-frame shape! LouiseAustralia 🦘
