Thank you, Kind Sirs, for addressing mental health and the restorative properties of “just getting out there”. I have been in a 14 year battle following my husband’s suicide. The first six months were spent as a motionless lump on the sofa and, if not for the insistence of one of my pups, I’d likely still be there. I spent the next 10 years successfully functioning in life but feeding my emotions until I gained seven additional stones (about 100 pounds). I often extol the vast array of skills taught to me by my father and the confidence brought out in me by my husband, but I somehow chose to dishonor those gifts by abandoning them in my grief. Three years ago, I said ‘enough!’ and, like Si suggested, I started out with a simple walk, then day hikes, then long weekends, and along the trails, I came across my better self, asking me where the heck I’d been. I’m not healed, (and I certainly don’t expect to ever be) but I am repaired. Six stones lost with one more to go, training and competing in agility with my pups, and recently retired after 39 years in the aerospace industry, I am enjoying life with a renewed outlook. I have one more major step to take on this new path I’m on- a 100 mile solo hike so that I can once again honor, through use, the gifts given to me by two extraordinary men. The first step of that hike- whether I finish or not- will be the culmination of an effort unknowingly supported by a man and his dog on the other side of the world, among others, and will be a nod to the men who gave me the abilities to save myself… long before they ever knew that I’d need them. Apologies for the long and personal post but the video’s topic spoke to me this morning and I felt that it deserved more than just a “hell, yeah.” And watch out about those comments of getting older and slower in your 50s… those of us in our 60s will have to come over and show you how it’s done!

Great video. I just would like to add myself to the list of people who have been inspired by you to lug a heavy backpack up a hill. Did my first camp on Friday at Small water after your last video... thought it was a safe option with the carpark etc. Wasn't expecting such a rocky hike though. Sat in the bowl of Small water watching the Perseid meteorites.. can't explain the feeling. Thank you.

Another great watch! Can’t get enough! I’m not looking forward to the day I have to go more than a week without a new video 😁 they are definitely an inspiration to get outside and should be the only tv people shouldn’t watch more of to get ideas and inspiration. I’m quite surprised I haven’t seen any of the KZbinrs I follow use dried milk/cream (like Nido) instead of lugging heavy milk. I put granola in a zip lock with a few nuts and sultanas then a few tablespoons of powder and then when I want to have it I just put it in my bowl and add freshly filtered cold water and it tastes great without the weight. I know milk powder isn’t as good as cream powder though. Maybe give it a try!

I have some cereal packs similar with dried milk. It’s a great idea and waaaaaay lighter. I might use some next time😉👍

👍 Great video mental health is so important specifically over the last few years. Getting out enjoying ourselves is the best medicine. Also limiting the time spent on social media would help in such a big way. Peoples spend more time looking at peoples that isn’t real just dressed up fancy clothing make up and sooooo many filters. Thanks for sharing:)

I'm getting later and later at watching your videos Al 😫. Good to hear you both having a chin wag, I'm the same in terms of never wanting to take the easy route, be different, take on the challenge of pushing yourself, but always have a sense of self preservation and sometimes you just have to concede defeat, but never do that without giving everything first!💪 #no1youtuber

Reminds me of my youth hosteling days with the school. Unfortunately one of our teachers made me enter a fell run at Buttermere, in full fell walking kit. As a punishment for naively throwing a stone from striding edge. I came 6th in the race.
