Great bass line with a great sound. The band is great - all of them. He still has his unique voice and the funk of course. Never saw that many keyboards on a stage. Japan, you're a great audience. The man deserves so much respect. He is the greatest songwriter of all times,IMO

I was pretty young when I was watching Ed Sullivan and I heard this cat say "Don't hate the black, don't hate the white, if you get bit just hate the bite" then this amazing music that would influence my drumming for the rest of my life. I'm so sorry Cynthia is gone, but so happy you two had that time together. 2008 and still funking amazing. Thank you Sly, you don't know just how much you helped me.

God Bless Sly and his crew in that,,,,he was of the Funk,and brought the Funk and laid it on our table with the Glory of Funk,and though many were called to herald and put forth the Funk very few were chosen,hence Sly was blessed with the Funk ,chosen and brought forward for all of us and thats why that Funky Funky feeling prevailed,,,,

His voice is still okay...the mistake was priceless... this might be my favorite song by the band...this sequenced before THANK YOU...on Greatest Hits was brilliant and the song helps levitate the STAND album to status as possibly the best studio album of all time. He could command 20,000 fans to chant HIGHER in unison. If you saw the band at its peak you know why folk appeared for this event.

I love when SLY comes in early. This is one of the important songs by the band. The musicality is muscled, sinewy and regal. Here's a secularized gospel for you.

SLY WAS AN INNOVATOR. HE BROUGHT SOMETHING NEW AND FRESH TO MUSIC IN THE LATE 60's. HE WAS DEFINITELY AHEAD OF HIS TIME. SLY HAD A MIXED BAND WITH FEMALES A LATIN MALE AND A WHITE DRUMMER. THIS WAS UNHEARD OF BACK THEN. HE INFLUENCED PRINCE AND SEVERAL OTHERS THAT CAME AFTER HIM. THE WAY SLY COMBINED R&B, FUNK, POP, AND ROCK INTO HIS MUSIC WAS AMAZING.

SLY is one of my very Favorite artists!! King of funk 🎶🎹🎸 First of all, this is NOT Sly singing. It is his brother. Sly has not performed since 1993. He was last known to be living in a RV. For those of us who were lucky to live back at his prime performances, we heard genius artistry and enjoyed the Funk 🎶💗
@JeffRebornNow3 жыл бұрын
LOL this is Sly. Freddie became a born again minister. He hasn't performed in years. You're right, Sly was living in a RV. Apparently he likes to be mobile. He has a large family; he obviously could have crashed somewhere but he preferred not to. He looks like crap; decades of drug use took its toll, not to mention he fell at some point and broke his back. But that is him on that stage in Tokyo.

Psychedelic Shack , Cloud Nine, Run away child etc. Sly was a big influance on Jimi , he did We got to live together on The Band of Gypsys CD, as a Tribute to Sly ! Sad 2 C our Musical Heros in such rough shape ! Especially when you remember how young vibrant and strapping he was. Sly and Jimi were suppose to Jam together ! Jimi never showed, the next morning it was announced he was found dead, under suspect circumstances !!

The drugs didn't do him in, but falling down and breaking his neck sure did (don't know if he was high when it happened) I love Sly, he was/is my hero. Gonna release a cover song soon. He is now signed to my buddy's label (Cleopatra) and he won the lawsuit against his ex-manager and got $5M. I don't know if this is the same band as the "Family Stone"....
@msrubie119 жыл бұрын
+VJ SWORD Prayers for Sly, he inspired us when we needed it most. He was brave enough to release songs to inspire black and white and protest racism at the same time. Not many were willing to do that then or now. We never know what kind of pressure the industry put on him. Forever grateful for his selfless contributions. Glad he won what was his. Sly and the Family Stone music is timeless!
@videojockeysword9 жыл бұрын
The music business is "more racist than ever"...more than it was back in his day. ...THAT'S what drives people to drugs. 90% of Christian churches are segregated...
@msrubie119 жыл бұрын
VJ SWORD Yes, we see it more and more and now some are speaking out and some don't make it out. It is more segregated than ever by pure design. It always amazes me how the Grammies chose to categorize Beyoncé as R&B when we know she is a POP singer. Radio even classify her as such. R&B stations don't play her music. Maybe one song that sound close to R&B while POP stations continue to play it. But if she is in that category she competes with Taylor Swift. In the category with other African American Artists she is almost sure to knock them out of a deserving Grammy. Not only are they racist, they are evil to the core!
@videojockeysword9 жыл бұрын
ALL the songs by the "top pop singers" are written by the SAME people! That's what all the Catfights are about. "Genres" don't mean anything, they're' just marketing tools. Music is sold just like "breakfast cereals"...
@msrubie119 жыл бұрын
VJ SWORD Yeah, you can see the politics clearly. When a song sells millions of copies and is the #1 song and a popular artist whose song didn't do the same numbers end up winning the category that it should not have been in anyway it is obvious. Real Music fans are becoming jaded with this B.S.
