Good review. My one concern is that if you go to a game reserve you have to close up everything before going on a game drive; that's a real Schlep. It would be better to be able to unhitch the camping part and have it resting on some type of strong poles. That's why I've never liked roof top tents.
@GetOutGO11 ай бұрын
The wedge roof on this camper is easy to open and close so tearing down doesn’t actually take that long fortunately. I will be looking at off-road trailers and caravans in coming episodes as well though.

That´s a sweet setup. I really like that while you have the interior living space, kitchen, storage and stuff like that is still reachable from the outside. So, as you pointed out, this is still camping outside and not RV style. Appreciate that as life happens outdoors, you know what I mean. Thanks for sharing that video.

Thanks Björn! I really enjoyed camping in this 👍
@TheRouteOverlanding11 ай бұрын
That's a good choice Chris. A 79 series can handle all types of terrain, dirt roads, mud, rivers rocks and mountains. It looks like there's not much to work on the vehicle or bulid cuz It's already providing you with everything you need to live on the road, including a place to sleep and a way to prepare food. What you guys do requires a reliable and long-term vehicle for traveling cuz you go through some punishing road conditions, I love the vehicle and the color is awesome. I can't wait to see more episodes

Very smart Chris, side out bed is a winner.
@GetOutGO11 ай бұрын
I usually prefer a top pop-up bed as that’s really quick to set up and you leave your bedding in place but this one also works well and It’s obviously easier to get in and out of.
@HoneyBadgerFarm11 ай бұрын
For folks who want to do a lot of animal viewing a trailer is still a winner. Setup the trailer and then take off in the tow vehicle to do a safari. What do you think?
@GetOutGO11 ай бұрын
The tear down time on these is pretty quick but yes, you have to pack it all up every time you want to drive. A trailer you pack out once and just leave with your vehicle. Trailers can become tedious though if you have lots of one-nighters, add extra complexity and can’t go where this can. There is no perfect overlanding rig, only compromises that meet your specific needs 😉. I will be looking at trailers / caravans in this series as well.
@Fergus_Afrique11 ай бұрын
I’m all for the trailer for a few reasons. One is my vehicle stays pretty standard and not a camper van. One nighters are not an issue at all, sometimes I don’t even unhitch the trailer. Even just a RTT was a pain for me if you need to go and buy some wood or supplies. This my opinion of course.

Great review! It’s a great vehicle and camper. We’re you able to try it out in deep soft sand and over rocky terrain? What’s the approximate weight comparison between that and the same vehicle with a canopy and roof top tent? The only issue I have is the practicality, which is every time you want to go on a game drive and having to pack up.

Hi Chris.. I don’t know if you follow voetspore South America? The one land cruiser that carries the bush lapa bosluis started coming loose on the chassis. The attach brackets that are welded to the chassis were cracked and had to be repaired. It would be a good idea to check with the guys doing the installation to see if the brackets are strong enough prior to fitment. Also, periodically do an inspection of the underside to check for cracks and damage. Something to consider when purchasing one of these campers. It was good to meet you at the caravan show❤
