Thanks Kat and Mark, great phrases! I've had the opportunity to work on international office environmnents and the team members are usually so busy and pressed by deadlines, that we miss the polite style in communication. Thanks and blessings.

I'm sure when the pressure is on it can be difficult to stay polite and professional 😂 As long as it's not too often it's all fine!

Oh my god.....I've been rude all this time. I thought being direct would help us get things done. Thank you for the nice expressions and explanations.
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
Don't feel too bad! It's sometimes important to be direct, especially when something is urgent or serious. But if you're not panicked or stressed about something at work, then these phrases are great substitutes. It's great that you're thinking about how to communicate more effectively! 😄

Hello, this is Kan. I’ve got a question about one sentence that Cat said. She used past simple in ‘What if we tried adjusting this here?’ Is it because it’s more polite than ‘What if we try adjusting it here’? Could you please explain a bit more? Thank you❤
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
Great question! This might sound weird, but it is considered more professional and polite to use the past tense. - What [were] you thinking? - What [did] you have in mind? - When [did] you want to have the meeting? We use the past tense because we assume the other person has already thought about their plan or their answer before now. Another reason is that when we give suggestions or ideas at work, we also use the 2nd Conditional. BUT we only the "if" part, not the second clause with the result (would, could, may). - What if we [started] the meeting 1 hour earlier? - What if we [met] them on Friday indeed of Thursday? - What if we [bought] 2,000 units? I hope that makes sense!
