David, thank you so much for summarizing this business field and its associated skills! I'm a stay-home mom and a statistician from 16 years ago! haven't been in the job market for a very long time and now I'm trying to work my way back into the data analytics job market by taking Google data analytics professional certificate. I have a lot of anxiety and fear of once I'm on a job I won't be able to effectively translate a business situation into an analytical task. I appreciate how you mention these three "buckets" and that most business questions can be fit in one or the other of these analytical buckets!! Will keep this in mind :D

YES! We need to understand the question to be answered, not just give people the report they think they want. Analysts have a deep and nuanced understanding of how data fits together and often can develop a richer analysis when the business context is understood.

100% agreed! However, the dark side of analytics is that often organizational culture is such that stakeholders see data professionals as order-takers. I've seen and experienced significant pushback from stakeholders when a data pro asks clarifying questions.

Wow! thanks for the information. This was very helpful! When I first started learning data analytics, I used to jump straight to techniques and all. But recently, I have learnt the importance of having knowledge about the working of business and not just knowing what the output should be. Once again thank you for this video!

I would offer that ML can be a great choice for questions where the answer is a number.

Hello David, If I were to want to go deeper into this would it be considered Business Intelligence?

As junior Data analyst what kind of problems can face to us to solve or to having skills to solve that please
@DaveOnData10 ай бұрын
Junior data analysts spend a lot of time answering the question, "What happened?" SQL and Microsoft Excel are the two most useful skills to answer this question. SQL is used to acquire, clean/transform, and aggregate data. Excel is used for analysis (e.g., PivotTables) and presentation/dissemination. Often, junior data analysts don't have many opportunities for modeling (e.g., logistic regression). That comes later as they gain seniority.
