i worked at a fast food place, we were required to keep asking “upsize?” “add on?” “if you change ___ to ___, it’s only $2 extra” at the end of every sentence. we’d also talk about the menus if given a chance and would point to the food then “accidentally” move our fingers to the add-ons. you’d be surprised at the amount of people that initially only wanted 1 thing but ended up with way more. be firm in your choices and don’t get swayed, it’s not worth it

Yeah, it is sales. Same in every industry on the lowest end. I worked in telesales for major telecommunications company. We had to say certain things, we were recorded, had dedicated team to listen and give us pointers how to improve. I did quit the job but used the knowledge to advance in life and tbh shit works.

There was a point in my life where I was at ~2 fast food meals a week. I was in my early twenties, working late hours to impress the boss, would get home at 9pm, completely exhausted, didn't want to cook. Uber Eats/Deliveroo had a host of good fast food options in my area, so it was tap tap boom. Best part, I didn't gain any weight. I'd be obese if I did that nowadays.

My family use to buy fast food almost every day for me as a kid. (Think how that affected me). But I don’t think they bought it more because it was advertised cheap but that it was convenient for them to buy me a meal than to make one especially since they were so busy with work so I think that would be a factor as well.

There is a button on the screen that say “ Show prices” And you can turn it on or off. Its always off so I decided to turn it on and look at the menu. Then I saw that a ❗️4 piece chicken nugget is $1.99 and a 6 piece is $2.00 ❗️😂😂

I’ve worked there for a year and a half, I know so much bullshit about the food. The 10 piece is 4.75 and the 20 piece nugget is $5. To add on bacon, it’s $2.10. Filet o fish, which usually sits for an hour, and only gets half a slice of cheese, is $5. More expensive then a quarter pounder.

There's certainly some manipulative pricing at play, but I think it's worth mentioning that the cost of servicing a customer doesn't increase linearly with the quantity of food. If the size ratio of drinks is 1:2:3, then the fair price ratio is somewhere between that and 1:1:1, with the exact amount depending on how high the fixed costs of service are in proportion to the cost of the food.

the cook always sighs because he knows i've basically caught a way to trick the system; he cant refuse to sell me these 4 burgers, but as he places all 4 bottom buns each one side by side and spreads all the ingredients on top systematically, before wrapping the burgers in paper, putting them in a bag and giving them to me, you can tell he knows I'm getting the favorable end of the deal here vs the restaurant.

@combatwombat594
@combatwombat594 3 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point, but you're also forgetting that eating that meal every day would make you hate your life. Plus that $3 doesn't include seasoning for the meal, which if you've ever eating food, you know seasonings are required to make things taste good. Also, I'm a huge water drinker, only drink soda with meals, but washing your food down with water is just gross. Might as well just mix it in with the meal and make every meal a soup then right? Since it's so cheap of course.... I get your point at the end of the day. I used to say the same thing when I worked at McDonalds. People would spend $40 on food for their family, when they could have gone to the grocery store and spent $40 to feed their family for more than 1 meal. Sanjee Thanabalasingam True, although I feel like growing up in America, as kids fast food definitely seemed and probably was a lot cheaper for whatever reason. Like in the early 2000’s I feel like. Soon after around 2010 or so, the prices skyrocketed, as pretty much shown in the video so it makes sense. I remember the first time I bought a meal at Burger King after years once I was out of college, I was SHOCKED at how expensive it was

Usually $2.00 or $3.00 cheaper, not no $0.09. 🙄 Also, it's funny when people just order the burger and fries, thinking they're saving money, when they could've just got the combo for like $0.30 more. McDonald’s was EASILY my favorite job, I’ve worked; back when I was 19-20. My store manager ran a tight shop, and so did all the other manger’s, though, everyone was really chill. When I worked night shift, I use to smoke week with my manager and the coworkers. We’d have so much fun and got along so well, even my coworkers whom were off, would even stop by, at night. I worked back-drive. I figured out people would actually SAVE money, if they ordered a combo - vs. just fries and a burger, or a burger and drink, etc. My store manager would chuckle, though, tell me I am not suppose to do that. I still did it. I would always have people tell me they enjoyed coming in, specially in the morning, because I was always pleasant to deal with, and accommodating. However, one time, right after my store manager told me I had to charge for “Select Sauces,” if a customer orders nuggets.. I had a couple come in and do just that. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. So, I attempted to charge. They threw a FIT - all while my manager watched me attempt to stand my ground, and follow the rules. She finally came over, and gave ‘em their damn honey mustard - for FREE. Though, that wasn’t enough for ‘em. Apparently, they thought one of the chicks workin’ front-drive, was me, being we both had pale skin, brown hair, and sloppy buns. So, when I was in back, getting front-stock, and her back was turned, towards the drive-thru window - they threw their full soda cup, and hit her smack in the back of the head. Thankfully, it didn’t smash all over her, and she was unharmed. Though, our top morning front-drive gal got fired, all because someone threw a soda at, through the window - and she threw one back, lol.

When fast food became more expensive than eating at home, I became a home chef. I never go out for anything I can make at home, and that is a menu full now. My family and friends are stunned at how good a cook I have become ever since the dollar menu became the "Value Menu" and a combo meal cost more than $10. The hell with that. I'll go into a grocery store and buy a mango and celery bunch instead of going through a drive through. The mango gives me a full stomach, and I can munch on celery for hours and spend a quarter of the drive through price. Not to mention that I won't be starving in a couple hours when the inevitable insulin crash makes me ravenous.
