theyre selling their product to cosmetic companies, theyre not slaves. they can raise the prices if they want, but they dont because then the companies would buy from their competitors or they'd buy less product. its not that theyre making something very valuable and theyre getting exploited; theyre making something that isnt very valuable, and their customers are re-selling their product at a high markup because consumers are willing to pay for a brand name.

Yoo Mo Ron I think the biggest aspect in the low wages is the traditional role of women. They weren’t given freedoms but conversely the men are expected to provide for them entirely. Thus you’re left with a group of workers that don’t rly fight for higher wages.

One of the most outrageous topics that exists. Born and raised in Morocco, Argan oil is part of our traditional beauty routine, but it suddenly became so "special" when the international beauty market laid eyes on it. 😏 Big brands, big cosmetics companies buying the Argan oil for the same price as locals and individuals to use a tiny bit of it in their products and sell them for an expensive price. The consumer is the only one who can change such reality by only buying from Moroccan beauty brands or individual locals. 🙏🏼 Spread awareness.

its not that theyre selling something valuable and theyre getting scammed, theyre selling to a group that doesnt demand much of the product, who then re-sell it to a group that demands more. the women can benefit from the high consumer demand by selling directly to consumers, but to do that theyd have to form a business instead of a cooperative. theyd have to specialize roles and automate the production process so that can work faster and produce more product, then theyd have to conglomerate with other companies and expand internationally.

Several years ago a friend who’s Moroccan gave me some Argan Oil that was produced traditionally. And it smelled and tasted very different from the stuff sold here in the US. This stuff had this amazing fruity scent and a fantastic flavor to it that I never tasted in the mass produced stuff.

The oil smells and tastes drastically different even if it is from the same plant and the tree/crop, it all depends on the refinement and the method of extractions. Cold pressed unrefined oil leaves much scent of the actual fruit itself, but it’s not always good as it goes rancid quickly for many seeds/kernels. And it is irritating to sensitive skin if it’s cold pressed as these unsaponifiables in the oil become irritant to the skin as topical application. And eating and applying on the skin, the best type of oil would be normally different. For eating, unrefined is more flavorful, and for skin, some refinement and deodorizing process are necessary as it can irritate skin and the scent can be overwhelming (for example cocoa butter, it’s extremely overpowering to apply unrefined cocoa butter directly on skin, and it’s almost never used alone).

Traditional Moroccan argan oil is made from the poop of goats who have eaten argan fruit. The seeds aren’t digested when the goats eat the fruit, so they are eventually pooped out, collected by locals.

I went into an Argan woodworking shop when I went to Morocco. The smell of Argan wood is so wonderful. I bought some small wooden items which still faintly smell like Argan wood to this day. I was in Morocco for almost a month and it was a great experience.

This oil only exists in Morocco alone and wasn't known for the rest of the world till lately. Moroccan women used to use it as a beauty product for decades and it's a part of their cultural heritage.

@@masteroogway6660 do some research before writing nonsense. Each oil is given a number according to its property/ability to clog skin pores. Oils that are high or even in the middle of the scale (4-9) shouldn't be used on the skin too often. Also, oils with high amounts of protein (for an oil), like coconut oil, can dry your skin if you use it too often. However, argan oil is the only (or almost only) oil that has a 0-1 on that scale and doesn't have too much protein (for an oil). And that's why it's so goid for your skin. Also, different oils have different chemical and physical properties regardless of this scale (such as crystal structure, which is one of the most important properties of anything - diamond, pure coal, and graphite are all completely the same chemically, but have different crystal structures, and look at the difference it makes). And maybe actually try real argan oil. You clearly haven't, because if you had, you'd see the difference even without knowing the chemistry and physics behind it. It soaks right into your skin, leaving it moist instead of oily. The same if you put it on your hair. Especally for us curly haired and tan skinned people. I've tried literally all oils, none of them were good, except argan oil. The rest of them would just make my skin and hair oily and dry it up in the long term

When I visited Morocco, one of my stops was to see the women make the Argan oil, as I love traditional making methods. It was just as I had imagined it to be, the women sitting in the shade goats and trees, it was beautiful, then we were ushered to the retail shop by the tourist guide and I remember thinking what a contrast, the shop was just like something back in London (flashy packaging). I have to admit it didn’t sit right with me, although I still bought in the hopes that the women did benefit from their labour, it was many years ago and I still have the bottle. I hope the women make a strong stand, protect their land and their efforts. Big brands show themselves again, their exploitation so so braising!

Argan oil is known to be one of the rarest, hence most expensive oils in the world. Pure, original argan oil is hard to obtain and production is time-consuming, thereby its price is high. Not all Argan Oil on the market is real and pure as many so called producer may diluted it, just to make it cheaper

Just buy USDA organic if you’re buying from the US, and likewise federally regulated labels for other countries. If you’re buying it at a “steal” price its likely diluted, but too high of a price isn’t a good thing either. It’s the same precautions you have to take with coconut oil. If you want to be 100% safe, buy it from a food aisle.

Take a look at chocolate and coffee too. The farmers and laborers are paid far too little. Climate change has impacted growing areas, so some coffee farmers are struggling to find and afford new places to grow it.

Some to the company that designs the squeezing machines, some to the trucking companies that drive it from warehouse to warehouse, some to the shipping companies that transport it internationally, some to the cosmetic manufacturers, some to the marketing teams keeping demand up, some to the retailers for stocking the product. And a little bit to the people picking up the fruit as it falls to the ground. Maybe some go into bribes to custom officials, or to pharmaceutical regulators. Regardless a product like this has a huge supply chain where everyone is extracting profit.

to all the people saying these women should be paid more, they could be but they chose not to. cooperatives arent as efficient as private businesses because the roles arent specialized. if they had some women cultivating and harvesting fruit, other women extracting seeds, and other women extracting oil, theyd produce oil much faster. additionally, their insistance on extracting the oil by hand (rather than by machine) exponentially slows the rate of extraction. this also means that they spend time extracting oil that they can be using to cultivate and harvest more fruit, reducing the amount they can produce. also if they were a private business theyd be able to conglomerate with other businesses to produce cosmetics themselves, or sell the oil directly to consumers. in both cases they'd benefit far more from the high consumer demand. they could absolutely make more money, but they decided to trade that for more tradition based business practices. i know this is getting long, but this industry could be compared to the matcha industry. matcha is a traditional japanese ground tea thats recently gotten popular because of its health benefits. matcha is used in overpriced health food, and unlike argan oil it has to be ground in a stone mill. but the matcha producers are making more money because they run their businesses in a more scalable way.

Argan has many health benefits. Its known for centuries. My grandfather is from that region. They ate it every day and people from that region have a much lower cancer rate than the rest of the country. They didn't even had a word for cancer because it was almost non existant in that part of the country.

No birthdates where registered back than, so we don't know exactly how old he was, but he was around 120 years old when he died. So your assumption because the average lifespan was alot lower than today is because the lived shorter doesn't really add up. Its because there was more child mortality, more deadly infectious diseases like typhoid, cholera and pokkes. It brought the average lifespan much lower.

To just some it up for whomever read this, WS is a proxy region left by Spain and have an unrecognised status, so Morocco will never "try" to reclaim Ceuta and Mellilia, as well as going using the same reason they do to WS to get back Tindouf and Becher from Algeria after the French Annexation

Pressed oil) My vote goes to that one 😉 👌 Here at home 🏠, I use them ALL, daily.... And, actually, it works, I guess..., since I got 0️⃣ wrinkles 😅 I'm only 36, yet.... @@faizalyahya Hi! 🙋‍♀️ 🖐️ Honestly, for my skincare daily life treatment I use a mix of natural essentials oils, which are mainly Chile Rosehip natural essential oil 🌺, Pomegranate natural essential oil 🍎 and Maghribi Argan natural essential oil 🌰 I basically mix it up all together (2 drops of each one) and mix it up all together.... Then, I spread it out all over my face, neck and hands, do massages until it's completely absorbed. Only then I put my facial cream night treatment in my face, doing massages again all over Untill it's totally absorbed. For my body, I use regular body cream, "Hamam body cream" treatment with Argan oil and Amber and Musk perfume. 🙂 The next morning, after wash myself on my shower 🚿 daily routine (I don't completely shower myself, but, only wash some parts of my body), I brush my teeth 👄, wash my face 🧖‍♀️, dress - up, put my daily facial cream day (with Rosehip oil, Aloe Vera and natural Butter, natural ingredients) with sunscrean 😎 in order to protect my skin from sunlight ☀️ and burning up 🌡️ Only after that, I put my Oud (I got many types of Oud perfum) on my skin and I spread Attar perfume all over.... I follow all the steps exactly as my friends taught me so.... 🙂 Why!??? 🙄

it's sold in most city in small bottle at the gift shops or Casa Blanca, Marrakesh airports, but airport has airport price. Many other ladies in Morocco cities produce Argan oil by the traditional methods. A beautiful country, not expensive if you fly into Paris or Rome first, then take another flight to Marrakesh via Easy Jet, Ryan Air etc. I flew Portugal TAP and the second visit was with AirItalia.

But hard work does not always pay off for the person who is actually doing the hard work. If you work very hard at your minimum wage job, you still making minimum wage. All of your hard work only benefits the rich owner. Literally, the women in this video would be making more money, if they were doing literally any other job. They make less than minimum wage. Their hard work only benefits the people who are actually profiting off of the sale of the soil. Not those women who are enslaved and working for less than poverty wages.
