West Lakes is crazy with salmon trout at the moment, I go kayak fishing there all the time and there are always bust-ups in the morning and near sunset. Great fun on light gear

far out the lake looks so calm. u should try trolling with the kayak with a rapala that would be a cool idea. pretty cool to see the fish chase the lure really gets the adrenaline going

Cheers man! It's not too bad. I've been snorkelling a couple times in there. I think taking shell crustaceans from there is prohibited, because of the high level of mercury. But still worth a dive! Just watch out for rowers cause they won't watch out for you haha.

So taking any sizeable fish from West Lakes is ok, just not shell fish is that right? Also bust ups like this does it happen all year round or seasonal?

Gday Darren. Thanks mate!! It does have effect on some fish, like bream that feed on shellfish but also live and breathe in the system. Bust ups like these happen all year round in west lakes. But some months are much better than others. Just a matter of having the luck of being there when it happens!

try using rev heads with no plastic or any jighead with a blade,,,they work a treat on finnicky pelagics feeding on tiny bait.
