OMG, thank you!! I am 62 and had a mild stroke last August. I always loved the drums, so I am now playing. It has helped so much with my coordination and gaining back my right sided weakness. I am 39 years old this year. And I have only been learning the drums for a few months now. As you said, it was very difficult to absorb at first. But I persisted and tried a lot and the results have changed for the better with my technique. .I always learn from teachers like you

Great video. I AM 65 and just got my first kit. What I find is that I can be playing a simple groove and reading the score and I see for example 3 hits on the snare and instead I play the bass drum instead. Its kinda hard to explain but It’s like my limbs have a mind of their own sometimes. Brain says one thing and limbs do something else. I hope with practice, things will improve. I’m only doing it for fun and exercise anyway as I’m way past being in a band lol. I like your style of teaching so new sub. Thanks!

This is fantastic to read! I'm happy you've found a new hobby, and I promise - with some practice, that "my limbs have a mind of their own"-hurdle will pass! I appreciate that you enjoy my content, and I hope I can help you out on your journey. (I'm posting a new video soon about bass drum practice!)

hi "TSD" I'm Mike, great idea newer drummer stuff! I'm turning 63 in July ,I played for a few years in a garage band as a teenager and life got in in the way and now here I am and realized I didn't know what a parable was or a free stroke ! I was wondering if you could give us your take on the free stroke ,and could you please show a front view and a side view ,so I can really see how the wrist is supposed to look doing the stroke ,I seen one guy doing it and it looked like it pivoted inwardly ,kind of to the side ,and one guy it looked like his wrist was flicking almost straight. Hope this makes sense 🥴Thanks
@ThatSwedishDrummer Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words, Michael! I'll see what I can do! The free stroke is basically the same motion you do when you bounce a tennis ball with your hands. A relaxed grip and a "flowy" motion with your wrist.

There's always helpful and professional content on your channel. Thank you. You gave me several great tips to improve my skills, but i must admit, I'm feeling a little sad, coz I'm 46 now (playing 30 years as a hobbist) and my skill is much worse than many younger drummers'. Off course this is not a competition, but if I could move back into the past now, I would've practised a lot more.
@ThatSwedishDrummer Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you enjoy my content! And don't worry about that, buddy. As you say, there is no competition, and you can't compare yourself as a hobbyist to drummers who's perhaps had more time and education on the instrument than you've had. If you want to excel your playing - keep practicing and practice ONE THING at a time. Hope that helps, buddy! /CJ

regarding musical reading it is very important , Chick Corea chose Dave Weckl because even though he was young he was already able to read and play music at first sight , the profound musical knowledge also allows you to reduce the rehearsal sessions to a minimum which in any case go always done every now and then to verify that the musical level is stable over time
@ThatSwedishDrummer4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s a great example! However, drummers such as Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Chad Smith, Buddy Rich are just a few of the great drummers who never took lessons and most likely never learned to read music. Again - it’s great to know and it doesn’t hurt. But it's not a definitive recipe for success 😊
