Paid around 170 dollars/month to my last trainer. At first I had an interview on the phone and then I got to fill in a quite big questionare about training history, diseases, sleep, food preferences/allergies, my work, injuries, how many hours I could put in at the gym per week, my budget for food etc. Weekly check-ins were we adjusted cardio/programming/calories if we needed to, but I also could reach him 24/7 if I had any questions/needed to talk. At the check ins I also answered some questions about my current weight, measurements, sleep for the week, my steps per day, if I followed the plan accordingly, my mood etc. Got a new meal and workout plan every four weeks, with different calories if needed to reach my goal. Every meal plan had 5 options per meal, so I had 5 options for breakfast, 5 for snacks, lunch, snack number 2 and dinner. He also gave me coupons to buy some proteinpowder etc cheaper (their own brand of course - but still). I was very happy with the entire plan, even though I have the knowledge I needed some accountability at the time I had this PT, I was in a rough spot. It was also quite nice to try some workout splits I probably never would considered trying beforehand. AND it was really chill to not have to think about what I was supposed to eat and that there was multiple options to everything, everything on the menu felt fresh and tasted delicious, he really took my preferences in mind when he created them. Very happy with everything, I had him for 8 months. He was very kind and paused my program when I had to go into surgery as well, and then helped me to get back on track after wards when I was able to walk again :)

I am personal trainer and was one in one of these mentorship groups for trainers doing online training. The guy leading the group said that ALL coaching programs should be at least $1,000… some people were charging 2,000 for three month programs. All they’d get is workouts, nutritional guides (not even meal plans necessarily), and not even a monthly phone call, they’d get unlimited text support. I had to bail on that, I felt way too slimy selling people that. I stick to in person now, way better for the client.

It's often fine to not give exact plans (if you follow something like PN's advice to trainers it's about meeting them where they are at and education so they don't need you forever...and there are technically legal implications to meal plans in some locations if you aren't an RD) But only giving text support sounds like they weren't taking an intuitive eating approach or educating at all, just screwing people. I've been doing this for 15 years including online training and I'd never be ok with taking the volume approach some people do. A premium price should come with a premium level of service including proper check ins, office hours, form review, plan updates etc. Not everyone needs in person training but if you are going to charge 300+ per month there needs to be value there. My in person rate is $80 per hour, that means to be fair at $300 per month I'd have to spend 3.75 hours per client...that's not hard to do but it's not going to happen if you are a fly by night instagram trainer. 2 grand can make sense as part of show prep but for a beginner that would be insanity.

I paid £100 for a three month program and basically just ended up with orthorexia. And then I broke my back, before I completed the last month and was told to eat 1000 cals a day until I can exercise again. Was supposed to be eating 160g of protein, but only 60g carbs, but I said I was vegetarian so my protein sources obviously weren’t going to be lean, and the suggestion was to use protein powder, so I essentially lived off protein shakes and consumed no fat. Now I pay £100 a month for an online coach, who specialises in eating disorders, and anything that I don’t enjoy gets swapped out, the meals are tailored to my preferences and I get new meals every week. Very much worth my money! Wish I had seen more videos like this before buying a workout programme online !

Exactly. It’s one thing to touch base with someone here and there but you can do it alone. I’ve lost over 90 pounds in a year and am quite defined at 48. Tweaking mechanics is the biggest thing besides nutrition. We can be off just a little and it can hinder results or worse cause pain. Example- rolled shoulders in Bench keeping chest from developing.

I think trainers have a place, but only if they work *with* you, one on one and with a very specific goal. So not a newbie starting out (other than maybe a quick introduction to the gym session to learn how to use equipment and a quick form check) but those who're prepping for a show. Or post-surgery recovery with a desire to get back to training asap, in which case I'd recommend a physical therapist with a personal training course since the latter are so easy to get. It's fine-tuning, a second perspective and little bit of aid during exercises / meal planning.

I’d love to have some sort of rotating weeks where I at least swap out exercises or something or even the split but still able to progressive overload the basics. Is that what you mean by Jeff’s program? I changed my split twice this year. First it was push pull legs then chest/tris, shoulders, back/biceps, legs, day off and now I’m on the first one as I needed a full back and a full arms day. I really have been thinking about it a lot and don’t take these changes lightly or without a lot of consideration

Kinda - in so far as it's avoided paralysis by analysis on many occasions, and enabled me to just get on and do something. Moreover, it's taught me a little about the pros and cons of online programmes. In the end, however, there's just no substitute for a customised plan. There are too many variables in life which can snooker good intentions. Like personal preferences, injuries, genetic tendencies, budget, goals, form and mind-muscle connection, motivation, and probably a myriad of others. Doing my own programmes now. I really wish I had bumped into someone sharing ALL the considerations, and who could have convinced me of their relevance, years ago. But hey, I've learnt something! Loved the fun video. Cheers!

If somebody want to start eating healthy food that is aligned with their fitness goal, be it bulking or losing fat, meal plans from Next Level Diet can be really helpful. I am using it for three months already. It isn't expensive and helped me start losing weight and eat properly. Now I am thinking about getting personal fitness coach to help me learn how to plan and do exercises properly.

Just for comparison: in Poland I pay 45USD a month for: workout program designed entirely for me (with all my remarks being taken into consideration) and macronutrients plan. Every week my technique is analysed (I record myself at the gym). Now it's 3 months since I've started and I'm super happy with the results. (I'm not begginer, I do workout for like a few years).

I did the V SHRED once. Was such a scam, I asked for and received a refund. I'm 50, disabled, cannot drive so must workout at home, diabetic, and on a fixed income. I think it's horrible that so many scammers are out there, so many contradictions on what to eat, what not to eat. Would I love to have a physique like Will's? Absolutely. But I think I have to lose 70 lbs before I worry about looking buff.

I bought Athlean AX when I first started working out seriously the summer of covid. Right before I started watching you, in fact I was in the middle of the program when I stumbled onto your channel. The program certainly wasn't bad, it gave good variety of exercises but it was definitely athlete focused, not weightlifting. But the program in combo with a somewhat healthy diet gave me abs for the first time ever and I felt good. Not everything was perfect and certain exercises seemed ridiculous, but it did give me a foundation which I then used to help me doing better workouts from you

I really don't like programs. Its east enough to setup your own workout routine or doing a search online to find one. Like you said, these people just find workout routines and post them as their own, total scams. Love your content man, keep it up.

I bought a meal plan from Vitruvian Physique when I very first started lifting for $60. I was honestly pretty happy with it because the foods were good - but at the same time it's way better to be able to change up your diet and not eat the exact same thing every day. I followed his meal plan for the first year of lifting and then figured out how to count calories and get my macros myself.

When I bought a v-shred program 4 or 5 years ago I was told the meal plans would be flexible. In the ended up only using the workout, as flexible only meant a choice between chicken and Turkey

Hey man just started watching you, and you make me wanna get back into the gym. I started a few years ago when I was fat as hell was 400 pounds at 21. Was disgusted one day when I saw myself in the mirror N was like "ima change fuck it" And did it. I dropped to around 185 within easily half a year, Currently 175 but I've been doing jack shit past month cuz of my surgery. I was working out 1-3 hrs when I got home from work, and was working throwing trailers for Harbor Freight Tools. Roughly 12-14+ hour days 5 days a week. I'm still slim and probably the most fit I've ever been in my life (current job is amazing at keeping your weight in check working next to 500+ degree ovens makes the warehouse a Sonae essentially, plus all the heavy lifting) once my hand heals I'm defo going back into the gym, thanks for all you do man inspired me to try and go further than I have before.

Hi Will. I’m really enjoying your channel. I just discovered you when I just bought a walking pad and saw your videos on walking 10,000 steps, etc. and then I enjoyed your other videos especially the videos where you go out and like the healthiest city, happiest city etc. this video at the end was lol. I also enjoy the humor in your videos. Thank you. All the best. Greg.

I never took on a client I didn't speak to face 2 face. There just too much to cover before I can write anything personalised for them. How they get away with this is insane but I guess regular pop just isnt aware... Im glad your exposing it though.
