On today's Tech Tuesday Jake Burkey of Busted Knuckle Off Road Shop is going to teach you everything you need to know about Off Road Fluid Containment. Now we have see a lot of fires and fluid leaks happening at events recently and we want to help you put that to a stop. Not only is it dangerous but it is expensive since most of us run full synthetic fluids in our systems. The main concept is called the FATS system. Fluid Air Trap System is a way of trapping air in your breather so there is no way for fluid to leak out of the system no matter what angle you are out. For the rock bouncer and rock crawler guys that even means upside down! This is more in depth follow up to our Fluid Containment 101 Rock Rods Tech video. We hope you enjoy it and put this information to make your off road rig cleaner and safer. Remeber that a Fuel Tank Rollover vent valve won't work unless you are upside down use this system instead.

Thanks Jake just I was looking for. Best description and demonstration so far. Going to update all of my fluid/vents like this. Had complete rollover on my roof a while ago in hard to recover area so it sat over an hour, lost all eng oil almost all transmission fluid. Had a gallon of trans fluid and about three or four quarts of motor oil but it still wasn't enough to get out of the trail on steep hills without trans slipping and oil pressure going to zero! May of burned up engine bearings.

Hey Jake, how does the axle vent work? I can’t get my head around the straight up then down method cause if the car was upside down the oil would come down the line, hit the bend at the top (now bottom) and there would be enough oil in the housing to go round the bend and back up to the housing and out the hose, even if you went round again so the vent is normally at the top away from mud, water etc Do you run it side to side first or something? Or just rely on the filter at the end of the hose? Either way, great content, everything else was super easy to understand and awesome as always 👌

Would the PCV drilled into say a LM7 valley cover not still suck up oil in a roll over right into the intake? Should you run a loop around the motor, down and back up to the back of TB or intake?

Another great video. Any tests/experience with dry-sump systems? I guess they are out of the question due to higher cost, space, maintenance and complexity. I see Goliath is coming out Insane even down to that killer color.

Yeah very few run dry sump systems because of the cost and reliability.

FATS system is great idea but I would not terminate at the bottom, I would got to the bottom then uturn and terminate at the top. This would keep from sucking water in in mud holes....

Are you guys running dry sump oil systems to maintain oil pressure on these crazy hills and when upside down?
@BustedKnuckleOffRoad
@BustedKnuckleOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
No dry sump systems for us. We use accumulators. They hold pressurized oil that is forced into the motor when needed.

Can you use the vent bellow in a street driven Jeep application?
@BustedKnuckleOffRoad
@BustedKnuckleOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Too much heat made in street driven applications for a vent below. Hose using the FATS system is the best way.

What if you are running an ARB? Wouldn't the FAST system be your only choice?

It shouldn't make a difference unless it is a vehicle that sees a lot of high speed.

@@BustedKnuckleOffRoad appreciate the info! I was just thinking with the ARB you are introducing air into the housing, and it would need to go somewhere, making a bellows not work.

@@donanders2110 An ARB doesn't pressurize the whole house.
@CrawlingArizona
@CrawlingArizona 2 жыл бұрын
ARB directly told me not to use those bellows . Could just be over abundance of caution on their part. With ARB lockers, if one of the air seals in the diff goes bad which does happen, it will pressurize the case. it's a good diagnosis tool when they're not working go over to the vent and listen you'll hear it hissing. A bellow would potentially blow out seals if it was strong enough & make it harder to diagnose.
