I've used RO Systems for almost 40 years. I've bought two systems, because I moved from the first house. I just did some maintenance on it. While it was down I purchased 6 gallons of purified water. In three days I went through three bottles. (I think it was US$1.40 per). As soon as my ROS was back up and running I refilled one of the bottles and checked the PPM 95. I have a Ph filter in my system. In 2020 I was speaking with another sailor who'd worked on super yachts. He said one concern was not getting enough minerals. I looked it up, added the Ph/mineral filter. (Usually when I replace filters my PPM is below 50, with the Ph filter it's 95. On a sailboat using a Water Maker (a more high powered PR System) 400 ppm is considered good. (Tap water is usually about 250 at my house.) My blood tests over the 40 years of drinking ROS water are all about the same,. My bones were super strong before the Ph filter, still are. I'm very healthy. (Probably smarter too, not consuming any lead.) The way I have my system set up. Before the Final Filter there's a T, this goes to two storage tanks and to the final filter. (This is standard.) After the final filter I have another T connection. One goes to my refrigerator to make ice cubes, the other goes to the mineralization PH filter and then to the tap. I've probably spent, over the 40 years, about $1200 on both systems, replacement filters and parts. Over all that time I can't have spent more than 40 hours installing, maintaining (changing filters) and repairs. If there's a problem troubleshooting is easy. Lots of videos. I just replaced the Auto Shut Off Valve. Might've been a problem... ?? $25. Why not? Added some air to the tanks (6-9 PSI the 12v compressor I keep in my car can go this low. I have a battery pack that has the 12v conector. A bicycle pump would be even easier to use.) I drink out of stainless steel. I wonder how much I've saved over the years? I'm sure my health is better... but tap water is really not dangerous, unless it's leaching lead, or locally contaminated. Mostly it doesn't taste as good. I prefer the taste of my water to anything in a plastic bottle.

For years we used these aftermarket water filter systems mostly gravity filters and just recently I installed 6 stages filter housings and trust me, no matter how many filter stages you make then it doesn't do any good as reverse osmosis can. And the amount of money I wasted everytime I changed those filters in just 3-4 months because after those months the water is have fishy taste and foul smells. The tds too doesn't drops significantly. Until I decided to go to RO and luckily, I was able to buy some parts online which is more cheaper than local shops nearby So I build one and now my tds drops from 80-90 to just 4 tds 😊 And its way more cheaper and time saver because all you need to do is to replace three filters every 6 months and the membrane every 2-3 years. I will never go back to those expensive and yet not effective water filtration system other than RO 😊

Hello, I am concerned about the plastic used in the components of the RO system. Since the plastic tubing is flexible, it must contain phtalates, and phtalates are oncogenic, forever chemicals that leach into water. If I use an RO system, how can I ensure that the water is not being contaminated by the plastic components in the system?
@mari-leefiducia864017 күн бұрын
@jamesconnolly2211 Great question 👍 Simple fix ... purchase an RO System using glass tubing and glass hardware . Drink water , eat well . Buy a filter or a FILTER .

@@mari-leefiducia8640 Thank you! Do you recommend a specific product?
@water_estore14 күн бұрын
I have never heard of or seen an RO system that uses glass tubing or hardware. For plastic to leach into water there needs to be considerable contact time. Since water flows through the RO system the contact time is too brief to become a concern.
@jamesconnolly221113 күн бұрын
@@water_estore Thank you! My concern was mostly with water storage in plastic, i.e. undersink storage tanks. I did some research into this issue and found that there is no NSF/ANSI test standard for non-BPA plastics such as BPS, BPF, CHDM, etc. So while the NSF/ANSI 401 standard tests BPA levels, there is no way of testing non-BPA plastic levels. For this reason, I bought the AcquaTru RO carafe system which stores the filtered water in glass. Best,

Considering RO now but just want to get the water from my refrigerator and not have to bother with another faucet at my sink. LG offers a passthrough filter for their system so that there's no additional delay. Is that possible? Lastly, I see systems from others that offer 1600 GPD while I see mainly 75 GPD from you. Can you touch on that?

Yes, you do. Reverse Osmosis does so much more than just remove what those 2 pieces of equipment remove. It also removes PPCp's, PFAS, PFOA, lead, sodium and muc, much more. It also depends on the mineral content (TDS) of your water. The higher the TDS the more you need a Reverse Osmosis drinking water system.

Your remineralization filter (likely the 6 th stage) is causing this. When you replace your filters don't replace the remineralization one and it should help, or eliminate it now.

Yes it does good observation. "Direct effects of low mineral (RO) water on the intestinal mucous membrane: It has been reported by WHO and other studies that drinking of demineralised water can cause electrolyte imbalance in body as all the minerals from such water are filtered off by semipermeable membrane in reverse osmosis or removed by distillation in distilled water. So this mineral free water in our body leaches electrolytes from our tissues, so that our body can function normally and can eliminate waste. If water redistribution process in our body is not functioning properly, one may feel fatigue, muscle cramps, weakness, headache and abnormal heart rate. In the past, acute health problems were reported in mountain climbers who used to drink water from melted snow that was not supplemented with necessary ions. More severe health problems arising from such condition are brain oedema, convulsions, metabolic acidosis etc.” (Saini, 2017) o
