Would you buy a snake from Mutation Creation after all of this? Regardless of where you buy the snake from you can seek testing services at companies like VetDNA (RAL), Fishhead Labs, PALS UK, Laboklin, and University of Guelph. You can, of course, work with your local veterinarian to further help prevent the spread of this virus.

Are you asking would we buy a snake from him now knowing he has had an animal he sold test for nido OR would we buy from him now based on the completely unprofessional pathetic response to one of his customers who bought a sick snake, including doxing that customer to his Patreon folks?
@delaneyh78132 жыл бұрын
As someone who was considering buying from MC eventually, absolutely not. The chance of getting a positive animal isn't my problem, my problem is how unprofessional he was and that he won't own up to his mistakes to the point of insulting his customers. Someone else who's willing to take an animal back if they're positive and not ridicule someone for testing can take my money instead.

I cannot like this video enough. Thank you for continuing to talk about this. I am going through Nido hell with my collection right now. I have 20 snakes and 15 tested positive for nido. Every snake was absolutely fine until a couple of months into this breeding season. Then a few started showing symptoms, then a few more and then a few more. I’ve spent lots of money on testing and I will continue to test my negative animals in the future. The positive animals are now in a different building on my property and are taken care of on a separate day to the negative ones. Unfortunately after all of my gravid females have laid I will be having all of the positive animals euthanised as I simply haven’t got space to keep a nido collection permanently and the stress of worrying about the spread is too much. As it can’t transmit vertically (parent to offspring) without coming into direct contact after they are out of the egg. I know that any babies will be negative and I will essentially be starting again. All of the info you have said is correct. I have a couple of positive animals that are completely asymptomatic. I have others who were at one point seemingly on death’s door just make a “full recovery” and look absolutely fine now. It seems to flare up and go back down again from what I see. I’ve only had one actually die from it so far and this was a young holdback. Moving forward I will be testing any new animal that comes into my care and I will make any seller aware that I will be doing this also. I just can’t risk it again. These past few months have been hell. The fear of being black balled is a very real thing but moving forward I will be encouraging any of my customers to test their animals and I will guarantee any animals I sell. We as a community need to try and clear this up and stop the stigma. If you have it in your collection it’s not your fault. Snakes can’t get nido from poor conditions. I keep all of my snakes in immaculate enclosures. But I did make the mistake of feeding off uneaten prey to other snakes to cut down on waste. I would NEVER do this again now. I also spray and wipe the tongs in between every animal as I’m extremely paranoid about worsening an already terrible situation. I can’t comment on MC. I like their channel and enjoy the content. I can’t imagine any of the big companies would knowingly sell sick animals. Unfortunately if we are not testing then we can’t say for sure that an animal is sick or not. I am making the decision myself to test any animals that come into my care so I’m at least doing my bit. I think a lot of the inflammatory reactions from people regarding nido come from lack of knowledge and fear. If you’ve got it it doesn’t mean you’re a bad keeper. Believe me I’ve been through all of these thought processes. The only way we move forward with this is to work together and test, test, test!! Sorry for the long comment. Thank you for the great content from the UK.

Sorry to hear about your snakes, Rob. It's painful to go through all of that. I think we might be getting to a time where people are more aware of biosecurity and testing - at least h and washing and isolating animals. I don't believe that MC intentionally sold sick animals. They do seem to have some pretty good practice around washing and cleaning but it just takes a tiny mistake (like feeding off uneaten rats, as you mentioned) as a possible vector. Good luck!

Thank you for this information. With all the misinformation and fear mongering all over the internet, has really got my anxiety through the roof. I'm already OCD on the cleaning of my reptiles and quarantining new animals but im sure viruses are inevitable when it comes to owning multiple reptiles.

Relatable. That's working with animals, right? Even if we protect them from every virus, bacteria, getting too many calories, too much sun exposure ... we can still find out our beloved pets have heart defects or other serious disease. I try to keep up gratitude for being able to spend the time we can with these amazing animals. All we can do is the best that we can!

Another big thing is that testing for serpentovirus wasn't accessible in Canada until recently, so there really wasn't a way for vets to easily send swabs to be tested; I mean there are still a lot of vets that know of serpentovirus but aren't aware that Guelph has a PCR test for it. The hobby in the US may be super behind, but at least there's some infrastructure there, it's all barebones up here unfortunately when it comes to testing and vets :/

Could you please consider doing a video on Copyright and youtube. Specifically would love to know: 1) How much of someone's video can you use 2) Can you use pictures of theirs in your video 3) Can you use pictures of theirs in your thumbnail 4) What is youtubes procedure when it comes to warnings/strikes/etc Thank you so much if u can! Thanks! 😊😊

I'm no lawyer and people have much better videos than I do. The short version is to try to research Fair Use and the Four Factors of Fair Use. The video just prior to this one talks about the copyright strikes people (including me) have been hit with. You can certainly use other people's videos, their pictures, and more but you must transform that work through, for examples, parody or commentary.

Lets face it, these big breeders dont want to know about it because they know they have it in their collections, and know a lot of people wont buy from them if they have it there. Its really pathetic that they keep trying to blame it on their customers every time they sell one that is sick. We know now that at least three big ones, Mutation Creation, Bob Clark, and NERD, have all sold animals that tested positive. This community needs to start speaking up and saying this is NOT OK. But we cant expect that from talk show hosts rigging giveaways...

It just blows my mind that no one has come out and said "Yeah, our facility sending out a snake with nidovirus is entirely possible. We're sorry but this is part of dealing with these animals." and instead they turn to how many branches are too many branches with a massive serving of goofy drama.

You have Nido in your collection too according to this guy. What makes you any different than these big breeders then?

According to "this guy"? According to "this guy", Jeremy Turgeon, researchers at UF, ... make sure you understand what you're saying. :) Nidovirus/serpentovirus is sneaky. Every other animal hobby has no problem discussing things like mycoplasma and Parvo. The "reptile hobby" is whining about "this guy" 🤣
