I can remember my grandmother feeding them and whenever the bluejays would come around she would jump up out of her chair and clap her hands to chase them away she'd say;...go away you stealers ...this food is for the little ones...so everytime i see these cute lil creatures...it reminds me of her and her caring heart !

@@blueforest2927 Jays are coming to our feeding place recently too. Here in Germany, there lives a different eurasian variety (not quite so blue) of jay. Whenever they sense danger they screech and all the birds fly off at once. They only pick for flakes of oats that we lay out on the ground. The other birds don't mind them, except for blackbirds and sparrows that feed off the ground. On the other hand: We have a pair of great spotted woodpeckers that occupy the place for tits, nuthatches and sparrows. They sometimes eat for minutes and don't let the little guys feed.

Lesley, I have to tell you this story as I know you would appreciate hearing it. A couple of days ago, several sparrows showed up at my feeder; almost 20 birds. Previously, chickadees, cardinals and blue jays had that spot. Well, these sparrows became quite aggressive, chasing off the chickadees and cardinals so that they couldn’t eat. (I didn’t see any blue jays). I became frustrated as I knew the sparrows were not natural to the area, and are prolific and aggressive; even eating other small birds. I wished so much they would leave! Well, lo and behold. The following day, about 5 blue jays showed up. And all day they were the “police” for the chickadees and cardinals, chasing the sparrows away! The day after that, the sparrows were kinder toward whatever came to the feeder. Leave it to the blue jays to bring back order!

...always a bigger bird! Or a smaller one, my bossy local song sparrow defends his territory against everyone. Tried to chase off a tiny green hummingbird and bit off more than he could chew. She came right back and dived down on him repeatedly, and seems to remember him. She will pause in feeding or gathering webs to swoop on him. I watched her quietly land a foot above him one day. Cocked her head at an angle and I swear she frowned before diving on him. They are both adorable in their irascibility. Even if he's a brat, that song sparrow spends hours every day motorboating around the water pan and fending off dashing suitors appearing in various car mirrors, it's great drama.

Chickadees hold a special place in my heart because it was my mom's nickname for me. The sweetest birds ever, yet so brave and curious. They will stay on the feeder or come down from the trees to the feeders as I am scooping sunflower seeds in. I've had them land on my head to check out what I'm putting out for them to eat! Lol! And their song, I mean come on, how cute is that?!?! It's unmistakable!

Cool video! We had a really cold snap here a few weeks ago, -41 Celsius with a windchill of -51 for about a solid week. Our usual Chickadees disappeared and weren't coming to the feeders. I feared that the cold temps had done them in. But, as soon as it warmed up they returned. Tough little birds, I can't even fathom being outside all day long in those temps!

I'm happy to see you did a video on Chickadees. Amazing smart, energetic little birds. A member of their family you don't have that I have here in CT is the Tufted Titmouse. I love observing them and watching videos of them. Very vocal, along with having an attitude for dominating feeders as they scold Chickadees, Finches, and Sparrows, and even harassing squirrels like the way Jays harass Hawks. Interesting fact I found out is that the Tit and Chickadee family is the third smartest bird family in the world.

The chickadees around my parents' home are so cute. They will fly all around the eaves in the autumn and winter looking for any spiders or bugs that have crawled up there to get out of the elements. My mom also hangs a suet feeder off a window on the second floor of their house. This lets us see the chickadees feeding their babies in the late spring and early summer.

I love watching our chickidees and nuthatches that we've been feeding for years. We've watched them raise several broods and now 2 years ago Mr and Mrs Finch (a pair of House Finches) moved into the neighborhood and brightened things up with their frequent loud and beautiful chattery songs. There seems to be something about chickidees bringing in other small birds. We've even got several species of sparrows that frequent our feeders
