Danny, I'm retired Navy and ran local and through freight between Baldwin and Tampa for a year in 2003. Your videos bring back some good memories. For those that do not know there's a definite skill to switching cars without taking more than a step or two. When new you'll run for ever and get wet in the rain until learning to switch smart. Good memories, and would have loved to make it a second career if not for the difficulty of being junior on the board. Being displaced on the board makes it a challenging life. With that said nothing cooler in life than running a train at 50 or 60 through a tight turn and crossings between Jax and Wildwood. Thanks for the memories. Bob j

I recall seeing the 1776 painted unit at Baldwin, from the I-10 bridge back in 1978. The crazy kid in the car waving wildly at that lead engine was me. I miss SCL. CSX is larger and better in most ways, but I will always have a special place in my heart for those black and yellow locomotives, with Mars lights, of SCL. You not only heard them coming towards you, but felt them back then.

I visited the Baldwin yard once while taking a railroad concepts class during my time as a contractor for CSX. I was amazed at how smoothly everything operated. The Yardmaster is a true multi-tasker. He was able to talk to our group and keep track of all the traffic coming in and out of the yard at the same time. I work as a CAD operator for a local railroad signal engineering firm. It's nice seeing how signals work in real life settings.

It would sure be nice if all the new hires that were coming up through the ranks were as good as that one...and it still holds true to this day! Always just love watching your train videos Danny. I’m in the aviation business as a mechanic for AA here in Tulsa, but still always get a thrill out of being the first one at a rail crossing to watch a BNSF or UP training go rolling by. Grew up as a kid in Waterloo, Iowa and the RI ran by at the end of our street. At night we’d peddle our bikes hard as we could go watch the 9:30 Rocket go roaring past heading south. On the way home from school walking along the tracks, could sure dilly dallying along if I saw a distant signal light turn red, knowing I’d get to watch a freight switch out cars at the siding tracks at the end of our street. But still love trains. Thanks for your information and great train videos. Be safe!
