Busy, have you every used or would you suggest the Captain Plugins? Captain Play will set your midi keyboard so after defining what key you want to play in, you cannot play out of key, it will automatically shift the notes. Do you think this hurt a producer long-range with their melody writing because they aren’t actually learning to play their keys correctly?

Cayle Reinhart in my opinion yes. My advice to you is to learn the name of each key on the keyboard then learn the major and minor scale- learn the pattern and you will be able to apply it to any key. Learn how to form basic triad chords and practice them. Learn about the two inversions (first and second inversions) this will help to smooth out some progressions. If you want or learn ditch the chords helper software all together and practice scales chords over and over again. This what I did. Then learn about 7th 9ths chords. That’s is if you really want to learn how to play the keyboard / piano. However if piano playing is not what you want to do just learn the basic and it will help you with best making

Playing "out of key" is kind of an illusion lol. Learn music theory, borrowing chords, scales, etc. Youll find these are not rules or regulation, theyre just tools and can be combined.

So yeah, youre really limiting yourself by taking away notes you couldve played to create tension or perhaps an inverted chord or whatever the case is. Dont TAKE AWAY notes from your arsenal.....

Oh and another thing you'll find by studying the great pieces of music throughout history is that MOST OF THE TIME, songs are not written entirely in one scale. Almost all the time, you're gonna hear whoever is playing whatever instrument go outside of the scale, or borrow chords from other modes.

Id recommend learning about relative keys, learn about the circle of 5ths, and learn the basic scale modes and how you can actually combine various 'keys' together to create a full song.
