Nice to see most of them pedalling at least. Only a couple of motor-bikes. Our NetZero plan at the moment is all about reducing (should be about nullifying) emissions, so policing what RLJing riders perceive as a rare personal benefit could be counterproductive. Still, who doesn't like to see one stopped and fined when it happens?

I got my replies from the Met after 8/9 days for two close pass offences after I reported them. Can take a while. I would advise anyone reporting traffic offences and who have video evidence of the incident and number plate to report as soon as possible after the offence and certainly within 10 days, as the Met or your local police force only have 14 days to review and serve an NIP. Don’t let these drivers get away with it. It’s not grassing, as you don’t owe them anything. They owe other road users a duty of care to drive with due care and attention.

@@PedroConejo1939 I'm not sure. Pedestrians crossing have enough difficulty thanks to some cyclists going through reds, I worry if it was amber and cyclists would be allowed to go "if clear" this would become "as long as you can weave between pedestrians ensuring you just about miss everyone". I don't see the issue with stopping at reds when cycling- have a breather, grab a drink, it's all good. I suspect it would also encourage the "them vs us" tribal mentality if there were different rules for bikes and cars. That being said I do think the junctions with seperate traffic lights for bikes giving them a few seconds to safely cycle off is a sensible move. Perhaps it's just me but I wobble a bit when getting my feet in and I do always feel a bit precarious at that point.
@RJWhitmore
@RJWhitmore 29 күн бұрын
@@JustSomeVideos0 Looking at it as if it was a side road, no traffic lights. Side roads work fairly well; one of the biggest sources of insurance claims after tailgating, but still. People are expected to make a judgement on when its clear and go - this includes being aware of pedestrians. Traffic lights streamline the process on busier roads and make it safer if people obey them. The difference here, however, is the expectation - a red light means it should be safe to cross as a pedestrian, where as no lights does not provide this expectation. Likewise, a vehicle from the right is expecting a clear road and so is not going to be paying attention in the same way they would to a side road with no traffic lights. That is the reason that cars can't go if they have a red light and it looks clear - otherwise the argument could be made for cars as much as cyclists. The only consideration remaining for me is when there is a _cycle-lane_ turning left at a red light; theorectically cyclists here should only have to worry about other cyclists and pedestrians if turning left - which are both quite slow in comparison to cars and therefore far less likely to be a surprise collision. So, it should be relatively safe, at least as safe as side road exiting is.

Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are very often the same people using them when moving. They only put the phone down because I caught them. 2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary: x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20 3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too - it's vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use. 8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it's dangerous and the science supports this. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

You couldn't be more wrong or ignorant: Cyclists, as groups of people, are more law abiding than drivers. More cyclists in London are killed as a result of waiting at red lights than as a result of going through red lights. Whilst I don't approve of cyclist RLJing, the reality is that it's drivers who're killing large numbers of people by red light jumping, and IIRC only 1 pedestrian has died in 20 years as a result of a cyclist jumping a red light. Cyclists "all over the road" - yes, cyclists are allowed to use any part of their lane, and to ride in lanes 2 or 3. They don't have to stay left to keep you happy, that is not the law. Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are very often the same people using them when moving.
