I made this a few days ago and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it! He normally doesn't care for leftovers, but made zero complaints about these. This dish was delicious! Some of the spices are not easy to find in Texas, but I did, and I am so glad. I will definitely make this again. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity with the world, Chetna!

Wow! Just made this! Doubled the ingredientas for a whole chicken. First time, so i let chicken marinate overnight, and prepped the day before. A few slight adjustments, but nothing major. A little unsure while placing in dutch oven. Magical! A man from central Nebraska can cook Biryani! Keep-up the good work, Scott

When you use chili powder is it ok to use american type chili powder spice or does it have to be Indian kind??

I Love butter chicken that’s why your version of biryanis is the one I like except I put more rice at the bottom first less on top & I dilute safran in hot water extracting his colour not milk! Persian version of using safran!!👏👏👍👌

My daughter and I made this last night - only we used Chickpeas instead of chicken. And the result was absolutely divine! Looksa absolutely delicious! Can't wait to try it. Question - why do you rinse the rice? I've never done that. Have I been making a mistake?🤷

Yes you always always wash the rice 4-5 times so get rid of some of the cloudy water!

It helps to get rid of some excess starch! It makes the rice less gummy & mushy, and more fluffy.

I just use the only rectangle baking tray I have, it is around 22 x 33 Cms

I love the look of this, I just bought your street food book and look forward to trying out various dishes. Beautiful and amazing, Chetna! Yesterday was my birthday... and... Two years ago I was lucky enough to live for several months in the same hostel, in which there were British, Americans, Canadians, Germans and... Indians. Everyone remains in my memory, but the Indians still remain in my heart! A lot of time and different events have passed, but we write letters to each other every week. We were introduced and united by the kitchen. Every evening after work, we prepared dinner and treated each other, shared food and dined at the same table. I learned about basmati rice, Kerala spicy food, chicken biryani and sulji ke halwa. With each dish, I never ceased to admire the previously unknown tastes and aromas. I couldn’t imagine myself without Indian cuisine! I prepared some things from memory, others were sent to me on video. And then I saw your book "Tasty India". I decided to buy it, but not immediately, but later. Yesterday was my birthday... and my son gave me your book "Tasty India"! He gave me the best possible gift in the world! I was so glad and so happy that I decided to definitely write to you and thank you for your work - writing a book and running a wonderful channel about food on KZbin! Chetna - you are magical and amazing! You are the Sun, which illuminates and warms with its warmth, and you have the rarest gift - to make people happy! All the best to you and your loved ones!🥰

This is next level. Make this - you will not regret it!! I made the rice, onions and curry roughly at the same time (with a bit of organisation beforehand) to try to minimise the time it would take. But good things definitely come to those who wait. Absolutely DELISH!!!! Thank you Chetna!

Hi Chetna! You are UH MAY ZING! Stupid question but I must know! Why use butter instead of ghee? Do I miss out on anything by cooking the recipe with ghee instead of butter? Thank you so much for putting these videos out for us. Your love of cooking is INFECTIOUS. And watching you eat it makes me feel like you’ve invited me into your home to partake. And I’ve brought the 2016 Pinot Noir from Napa Valley for us to enjoy. Speaking of Which, in your opinion, which wines pair best with your and your mom’s biryani? Maha Devi: Yep, can definitely keep in the fridge for several days - I made the mistake of ordering a full order the first time I ever tried this dish... a 'family-sized' order... 😁 Was good, I think, for 6-7 days... I did need a break from it for a while after that! But, OMG this recipe has me drooling for it again... homemade this time!

This is THE Best Butter Chicken Biriyani EVERR! My kids and husband loved it. Even though i omitted the fried onions and chilli cause my lil one doesn't like onions so he can enjoy it too, it tasted great. They asked for it the next day too😁. Yes it will but you could still make it, some paneer pieces might crumble or you can also try with potatoes

Hi Chetna! Love this recipe, but I don’t have a pot which is oven safe. Can I cover it and cook it like a dum biryani or in a pressure cooker on the stove top? What would you recommend? I’m afraid if I put it on the stove top, the rice will burn because there is no additional water.
