I wish the world would discover the joy of butter tarts, as they have poutine. They're mind-blowing, especially when made 100% from scratch and ever-so-slightly warm after coming out of the oven and cooling for a bit. Luke warm, not hot🤤

I can’t understand how it is that you never saw them in America! My mother-in-law’s close friend (now 88 years old) made these for us every Christmas and during other times we would visit when we’d come back up to Monmouth, Maine, about 2.5-3 hours from the closest Canadian town. Not exactly next to the Canadian border, but not terribly far away, either. So, hey, give us an itty-bitty credit that we Mainers recognized a good thing when we saw it, too! 😃 😃 Thanks for posting!

Just like Mom makes! Going to try these tomorrow, will bring back some memories. Another Canadian thing is to make “Pets-de-nonne” out of the leftover pie crust. I remember coming home and my Mom would have a few waiting for my brother and I after school for a treat.

Sounds good. I’m a kook though. I’d have made 1 row of 3 with raisins, 1 row of 3 with pecans, 1 row of 3 plain and 1 row of 3 with walnuts. 🤪

Always add raisins and my mom’s trick is to add the raisins to simmering hot water and let them simmer for 5 minutes. Drain the water and let the raisins cool. This way the raisins are plumped up and they don’t absorb any of the butter tart filling.
@carolali8851 Жыл бұрын
If serving adults only, soak the raisins in rum for a 15 to 30 mins it also plumps them up.

@kimberleyjane23383 жыл бұрын
Hi, the vinegar cuts down on the sweetness. I use lemon. This is a delicious recipe. Be sure they are golden raisins, if using. Also I lay pecans on the crust then pour syrup over, very slowly. They will float to the top on their own, everytime! Happy baking!

Brenda food processors have a safety mechanism - you can’t operate them without the lid being screwed and clicked into place. It’s not like a stick blender that you operate without a guard.

Ok, don’t really want to sound like a snob, but if people are going to be taught how to cook things it should be the proper way! First of all you should not use an electric mixer, that is why they sink. You should risk by hand and his little as possible. Also start the pastry at a higher temperature like 400 to get good color on the crust then turn it down to 375.
@PanAmStyle4 жыл бұрын
First of all .. NEVER raisins or walnuts! Pecans? MAYBE, on RARE occasions for your aunt Gertie who is just weird. Second - the pastry is TOO DAMN PALE! It needs more colour! What have those Americans done to your your COMMON CANADIAN SENSE?!? 🤣
