Buttercream Stenciling on Cookies

I am so excited to find this. I am not big on the whole Royal icing thing. I think buttercream tastes so much better. This is what I was hoping to find. The smile at the end when your daughter saw the 'reveal' is priceless!

Can you decorate these cookies and then mail them with buttercream frosting ?

Unfortunately with buttercream it would probably smoosh and not look good if mailed.

We put cookie in for recommended time. It still stuck to stencil. I used gel food coloring. It didnt work at all. What do you recommend?

I try to smooth on the colored buttercream as soon as I pull the cookies out of the freezer or else it starts to thaw and become sticky. My other tip is to make sure you do the process quickly before the colored buttercream starts to get too hard because of the frozen cookie and then it pulls off the colored buttercream.
