Here is an unboxing video of my latest purchase: a few high quality deployant clasps from Geckota and an ultra cheap deployant clasp from China. I decided to use these deployant clasps in order to extend the lifespan of my leather watch straps. In this video I feature a SEIKO SNK809, Orient Star Classic, Hamilton Khaki Field, Maurice Lacroix and Seagull 1963.

Is there an advantage to using deployant buckles on straps. Does it allow a new stiff strap to conform to wrist better? Anyone with experience with this please help with my decision making. Just received a 3D print of RGM’s 151-COE corps of Engineers.

To my understanding the deployant buckles look fancy and prolong the lifespan of a leather strap. If it conforms better to the wrist? I don’t it. In my experiences wearing a strap without deployant allows the strap to wear in / break in better.

Gadgets for Gentlemen thank you for your knowledge on this. Does alligator flex better compared to ostrich straps? I understand new straps will typically be stiff. But if the price range is $200+, do these straps go through a few extra processes of conditioning for better flexibility while still maintaining strength?

The only thing I hate about deployment clasp is it leave you marks in your skin when you wear it and it’s not comfortable

True! It is not as comfortable as leather. However my leather straps seem to last much longer with the deployment clasp. I am willing to exchange a bit of rash for longevity 😂

You’re brave using that gold plated clasp with that watch... I think Marc at Long Island sells gold plated clasps that are better quality.

The clasp is actually quite sturdy. I would hate it if it breaks down, especially with the Maurice Lacroix.

I just bought the Orient Bambino Version 4 and really want a clasp. Does any watch straps come with them on already?

@@GadgetsforGentlemen thanks it's actually 20mm or so I was told. I ordered just the clasp which is 20mm. A new strap would be 22mm. Again I'm new to this so I'm going on what people are telling me. Thanks for the help.

Usually leather straps taper down from the case to the dial. That means: the strap is wided at the case (for example 22mm) and it becomes more narrow at the clasp (for example 20mm). If you only want to go for a butterfly clasp you will need to measure the width of the leather strap where the Orient clasp is connected. Hope this helps!

On which watch? You have the measure the lug width. The Seiko is probably 20mm or 22mm.

I hate butterfly clasps. I wear leather for comfort and butterfly clasps are uncomfortable and thick.. just buy good leather and it will sruvive a long time anyways.
