Carol did most of the work converting her 2012 Ford Transit Connect XLT to a camper. She said, “I figured if I could sew, I could cut wood!” And she did a great job. This was her first camping experience and her first women's meetup.

Amazing Lady with an amazing van setup! She is correct. Just do it! Another thing is don't overthink it! Your van/Rig doesn't have to be brand new. But try and find a reliable affordable one. I'm two years into my van-life journey and I wish I would have done it sooner!

I put silver drawer pulls along the wood beside the kitchen stairs, and on the side of the entry door so Momma could hold on to something when she stepped into the house. They are shaped like the van door holder you use to get into the van. It has to be something her hand wouldn't slip off of. She could screw it into the wooden cabinet where she steps in. It works!

Awesome! I have a 2011 connect but i dont think its the xlt. I love the overhead shelf! I dont want to put much permanent because my van has 294k miles, but its so little ive been looking at an overhead shelf set up..i also have the cot set up..works fine for me too. My flooring i just bought the interlocking foam floor from sams club found a 6x3 $40 carpet from Lowes that fits exact..just came back from 10 day road trip to 3 new england states with my dog as company and 2 weeks last fall down south..im interested a in womans group too. I didnt feel unsafe but definitely would feel better and more interaction in a group..have fun! Its so free feeling!

I don't have any sewing skills, have no idea how to make something with wood but I'd like to give it a go. 🤔 how did you work out how to attach the shelf, how to put the L brackets on, attach your flooring etc ?

That's a big question. 😊 You could search for tutorial videos. Better yet, hardware stores and Home Depot, Lowes has people who can show you.

It's just a money pit, not worth keeping if you enjoy traveling more. Sell & put that money away for future needs, let it build interest, there are many retirement home options.

@emart: inflation is devaluing money that was saved up for decades. Some people have not saved that long, but inflation causes lose to everyone.Inflation is worse than taxes.

I have been dreaming about this for more than three years and still am not on the road. Transportation being the main issue, but I really want to do it. I will be 75 in Aug. my daughter keeps saying Mom you don’t need to be running all over camping you’re too old. I let her know that there are men and women in their 80’s and 90’s out there all ages are out having a good life. Am working on it. Hope to see you all on the road sometime soon.

What's nice about van life, for women, in particular, you get freedom, from life's responsibilities, you have adventure, you meet people to befriend, you learn, you explore and, in and on. So often, we are told by society, being home, caring for family, is enough. Look at where women are today. We are a source to reckon with. More power to us all. This video was inspiring. If you are thinking about it, if you have the means to do it, if you have the time to do it then, just do it. What do you have to lose? You can, always, pack it in! Thank you. Sweet lady. A side note: PLEASE ladies, when you make a video, block out the license plate and do not give full names or tell where you live. Do not show where you keep your safety items or what they are. There are nefarious people, although few compared to nice people. YOUR SAFETY is ALWAYS PARAMOUNT! Always look around you and who is near you, EVERYWHERE you are. Break up your routine travel patterns. We are taught this in the military. When you do it every day it becomes second nature and you have what is called muscle memory for your body and brain. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE with your SAFETY Gear. Remember if a perp gets your safety gear, they will use it on you. Bear spray is safer than a hammer, knife, etc. Practice having someone “pretend” to assault you and try to escape. All people who are first responders train, so should you. Be smart Be safe Have fun! 😃🚐🏝️

I zoomed in, and the label is too blurry to read. Being on the road is no more scary than living in a stationary home. It is much scarier to think of not having lived life to the fullest! 💙🦋💙

🔫Make sure you have protection, this world is only getting crazier😵‍💫😵🥴 It is nice to not be afraid, but you have to be cautious🤔 Stay Blessed✝ and Take as many pictures as you can to remember the trip! 🌴 a disposable camera is the best they are cheap & you can drop them off at CVS or Walgreens and a week later they develop your film and you pick them up😀😎

You can’t stand up, but you can sit on a bed with lots of storage underneath and lot of headroom on top. I can’t do that in my minivan camper. :)
