Practically no one reacts to the Butthole Surfers, aside from an occasional "Pepper"... they're such an underrated band... I think the name makes a lot of people make assumptions about them
@LucidDream3 жыл бұрын
It's either 'Pepper' or this song really. Since this song also got popular for a while with things like being featured on Guitar Hero. Probably their two most easily accessible songs. I like albums like 'Independent Worm Saloon' - 'Hairway to Steven' - 'Locust Abortion Technician' - 'Electriclarryland - and 'Humpty Dumpty LSD' (which is a compilation rather than an official album). I just think most people wouldn't really like them or understand them. A band you either love or hate.

Butthole Surfers are from my hometown and no one here knows of them. Such a great band and one of my favorite songs

Gibby Haynes had a couple side bands, such as Gibby Haynes and His Problem, The Jack Officers, and P. The band P had actor Johnny Depp on bass. P was also the band that was playing at The Viper Room when River Phoenix died. They do a hilarious cover of Abba's "Dancing Queen". Paul Leary, the guitarist, also has a solo album. Some of my favorite songs are 1) Dancing Queen, 2) cover of American Woman, 3) 22 Going On 23, 4) Bar-B-Q Pope, and 5) Dracula in Houston.

the 90s were such a perfect blend of underground music that surfaced. so many different fronts that record companies had trouble controlling what got popular. lots of mixed tapes that were handed down from older siblings. i remeber hearing things like the chili peppers when i was in middle school and they didnt get airplay until i was in highschool. a lot of crossing genres

Paul Leary is the guitarist. I love his style. Butthole Surfers isn't for everyone, but they have a very particular sense of humor. Can often see people like Leary on the stage making ridiculous faces while playing. Just silly. John Paul Jones, from Led Zeppelin, helped produce their album 'Independent Worm Saloon'. Also recommend checking out their show on the 'Scott & Gary Show', where they said they had dropped acid before the show. lol There were some interview segments on that show, which were amusing. The host was trying to ask them questions and they were all on LSD. Leary would be asking what brand of condoms the audience wears and Leary would keep getting up/down to go turn his amp on to play some feedback. Then he'd turn it off and sit down, then go do it again. Gibby was down to his boxers at one point, if I recall. I think the host later said it was one of the worst shows he did because they were so hard to talk to really.

Hey Ned from Spain here. Some interesting stuff about the vid and the Buttholes, some of the drawings in the beginning are by 1960's artist Robert " Appetite For Destruction " Williams, Flea is the bartender, cartoons by Tom Holleran and wild Wes Archer. Paul Leary is the guitar genius and Mr JD Pinkus is a legend who also plays in the amazing Honky and The Melvins among other projects and now does strange wigged out banjo music. King Coffey on drums and the ever amazin Gibby Haynes on vox.

Do you wanna know who’s playing that bass?… That’s John Paul Jones. The John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. Butthole Surfers didn’t actually have a bass player, but John Paul Jones produced and played bass on their first album.

Would not suspect it, but this was the Butthole Surfers' major label debut. They went on to have a big hit song called Pepper. Some band names, you expect to rarely ever hear but they stuck to their touring (and made real trippy music videos) and got famous
