Let's not forget that the Canadiens defenseman unit were almost at the top of the league for goals amongst defensemans with other teams, imagine if that was not the case where would the Canadiens would have finished because the Canadiens forwards had a very hard time scoring goals last season. The goaltending wasn't bad for the Canadiens last season, it was just above average. The forwards is the positions where the Canadiens have to be so much better and they certainly have the potential to be.

Hi Tony, I've heard you several times lately talking about the importance for the Habs to have a better powerplay to make the playoffs next season. We all know how Lane Hutson will be an important piece to boost up Canadiens's PP. What I wish to see this year on powerplay is Lane Hutson with Arber Xhekaj. I know it sounds crazy but remember 2006-2007, the Habs were ranked no1 in PPG with two left handed def. Sheldon Souray with Markov on his left side had 19 PPG, just behind Selane. I think Xhekaj can do it with Hutson on his left. Xhekaj has one of the strongest slapshot of the league. What do you think?

Habs had one top 6 line last year One PP unit They now have 2 top 6 lines 2 PP units I would keep the Top 6 5v5 trios as PP units Then add Gally as net front in one And Roy or Newhook ( who ever plays 3rd line ) on the other unit DVO, Armia, Anderson, Evans all play PK Every forward gets ice time on special teams, spread out and fresh

I am an ex pat who has lived in Europe since Habs won the Cup in '93. Too many so-called pundits (?) in North America underrate Kapanen. Everyone is rightfully excited about Demidov however the other European prospects seem to be overlooked. I have seen Kapanen play at least 20 times and IMO he is at the very least a 3C. He plays a complete 2-way game and has pedigree like the Tkachuk brothers and Iginla. Time will tell if he or Beck is the better player. Lastly, Volokhin played on the same team as Demidov and tore up the MHL so don't forget about him. He possibly could be a 1A or 1B. That would be an incredible tandem with Fowler. Russian goalies have been excelling in the NHL.

If Owen Beck is Danault's replacement in a way because I have heard some comparisons between the two, then the Canadiens should not trade him for sure. We need some Selke centers/forwards even though I heard that's what the head coach of the Canadiens is trying to teach the players on becoming a great two way forward.

This obsession with size ... LH will not clear the front of the net like someone like Xhekaj does. He'll protect the front of the net differently. On a couple of occasions last year I saw him won board battles not by ramming the opponent in the board, but by outsmating him with his stickwork. Stop that old school thinking.

regarding MTL in the playoffs....You can say Tampa, leafs, Boston,etc will steal MTL spot, but they get there beating teams like MTL. So MTL has to beat top teams at least half the times when they meet, because lower tier teams won't beat them top teams most of the times. So it's in MTL hands to carve their way to the playoffs.
@charles6180
@charles6180 15 күн бұрын
Totally agree! We will only see progression when Habs start beating these teams. Atlantic division is the toughest so will be a good test for Habs and all the additional young players they will have in the lineup after this coming season with UFAs freeing up space.

Owen Beck is ready to replace Dvorak now. MVP of the Memorial Cup. Sound familiar ? He is a face-off wizard and has rising offense. I'm not sure that Fowler isn't ready either. Maybe 1 more year but I don't necessarily buy into goalies needing to be 24-25 for NHL. See puck, stop puck. The guy is big and made of rubber.

You know, I was excited about the team and how things have been building up -- the prospects, the draft, and now even Laine and Dach coming back -- but then I wake up, it's all a dream. Craig is right, defense, I've been saying it for years now. Marty can't fix it, he and his "concepts" are all a bunch of hype. We're gonna suck again. Only this time, the big prize won't be another high draft pick, the real prize will be a new coach. Business lesson for Mr Kent -- don't hire your friends.

Marty has been the perfect head coach for developing all the young players and is the perfect person to help Laine get back on track. Give Marty a chance to see how he evolves as a coach when "wins" are expected. To diss him before he has that opportunity is extremely poor take.

Gorton said there was a pervasive sense of dread, gloom and doom throughout the organization. He said a change was needed to lift the players' spirits, to restore a positive attitude. That's why he brought in Marty. Not a bad move at the time, all things considered. Mission accomplished. But Marty is not the right guy for the next phase of the rebuild. Marty even speculated that he would leave that to the next guy in one of his pressers. Why do you think that so many pundits have suggested that he could use an experienced NHL head coach as an assistant? Because they don't think that he can deliver the results that are finally coming due. The Habs give up a ton of goals and give up more shots on goal than just about anybody else. That's a sign of terrible goaltending or poor coaching. The goaltending hasn't been terrible. Pascal Vincent wasn't hired to coach Laval. He's auditioning for the Habs.
