If you didn't know "Anytime You Need A Friend" is Mariah writing to herself from the perspective of God. The song is essentially God speaking to her!!! Also, Mariah lovesss incorporating her remixes of songs with the original while performing live (it's because she re-sings for the remixes she does almost every time!!) The end of this performance is the Remix. It was also the closing of the show so it makes sense haha! But since this performance was in Japan and AIWFCIY was her biggest song there even in 1996 (Japan is always ahead of their time) she came back to close the show with All I Want For Christmas Is You as a surprise even though it was not Christmas haha. Mariah still transitions very often into head voice in between phrases it's part of her current music more than it ever was before the whole Caution album (2018) is mostly her in head voice/falsetto, she knows it's something very dear to her listeners and herself next to the whistle!

Mariah really brought the "re-sung" remix into the mainstream with David Morales on "dreamlover" and "anytime you need a friend" continued it. Thought it was really smart of her to end the concert on such a high note. Two singers who spring to mind for really obviously being more skilled vocalists. The very minimum one should be able to say of anyone worthy of such a title as " greatest vocalist ever" would be that one can state with some confidence that they could have been singers at any time in history. The studio version doesn't have such remix, instead with belts, runs & whistle transition in the second part. Yet, her remix here is so great that gives a new life to the song. _Anytime You Need a Friend_ is literally among the hardest songs from Mariah Carey, alongside _Lead the Way_ , _Vanishing_ , _All in Your Mind_ , _You're So Cold_ , _Emotions_ , _Butterfly_ , _Can't Take that Away_ etc. Tbh, almost none of her songs isn't vocally suicidal to be sung along with, mostly because of the agility & ranges. People are often blinded for her whistle register only. Her transition is seamless. This Tokyo Dome tour is her best live show. She put tons of quality notes within these 4 hours at one night. Please react to other live songs on this tour!

Mariah is historically known for her House remixes of her famous hits. House music was the main dance music of the 90s and Mariah delivered and had many #1 club hits from her hit songs. Her famous massive House remix hit, Dreamlover with DJ David Morales was #1 on the Billboard dance charts for weeks. She was known to be the only major artist that would go back in the studio to record additional vocals with her backup singers just for the remixes with the DJ. Hence, she released the remix album of her hits. Just brilliant!. You can tell she enjoyed doing the house remix vocals. Distinctly Mariah.

What's amazing about this performance too is this was the second to last song out of her 15 song set list that night, with all extremely difficult songs. So it was a long concert, and she did 3 consecutive shows at this venue that were all within a couple nights of one another (also the crowd was 50,000 per show over the 3 nights & all the tickets sold in a couple hours, just a fun fact) Also her belts are so amazing and one of her most interesting qualities is how high they sound in comparison to their reality. With most female singers some of those more mid belty notes like C5s will sound like mids, but with Mariah her mid belts sound ridiculously high, and her voice, even at this young age would start taking off into her belts at F#4/G4 which is low for a soprano. I mean singers like Beyonce who are mezzos have similar 'taking off" points in the range to Mariah, who is supposedly a soprano which is interesting. Her highest note in this performance even was an F#5 which sounded huge.

Love how you explain that the practice of extending a song isn’t really done as much in today’s pop music. Mariah Carey is a genius in doing remixes. She does remixes on her songs but recorded new vocals for them. In fact, she made a whole separate album just for the remixes. Also, you can find this kind of extension on Joy To The World too in 1994.

Thank you for this video, listening to you, the honest vocal coach, and just the Voice, makes me want to take vocal lessons. I love how you broke down the technique of Mariah Carey's performance. The part You mentioned she, sang an Ahh sound, I was like; I didn't hear it, and I watch that performance 1000x. I also, knew when I heard vision of love the first time in that she a back up Brenda K Star.. 💜

Another great reaction showcasing your incredible music knowledge Jess. It’s really great , as there are so many reactors that simply pander to us the viewers, telling us what they think would please us, so hats off to you. Great job. On a tangent, you reacted to a 9 year old Amira Willighagen some 2 weeks ago, & You were keen to follow up on some of her more recent performances . I left a list of about 4 for your consideration, but if you want them again, please advise. Looking forward to your in depth appraisal/ critique of this wonderful young Soprano. Cheers, Graeme.
