Obviously Mariah is the QUEEN of melisma, vocal technique and just overall agility, But a lot of people don’t give her the credit she deserves for being a genius of vocal melody arrangement.

Soprano Notes I have to say, This is my first visit to your channel. I’ve spent countless hours arguing Mariah’s vocal ability with stubborn commenters, (mostly whether Whitney Houston was better as a technical singer because she had stronger mid belts) but I feel like only another professional singer can truly understand. People like you and I. I’m a singer and I was also in a relationship with a woman Opera singer who studied under the Opera singer and teacher, Joanne Koehn. (If you haven’t heard of her, please look her up online) Anyway, hearing the informed opinion of someone who is well versed in Opera, the harshest analysts of the technicalities of vocals, is refreshing.
@jessicasopranonotes4 жыл бұрын
@@adnap I think comparisons are interesting. They can be so informative when trying to highlight specific techniques and what may or may not work for the singer/ listening. However, I don't understand comparing to prove a point of "who is better." At the end of the day, it's a subjective statement so there's no need to be argumentative/negative about it. That being said, I'm glad we can relate on the analysis level. Thank you for your compliments! P.s. what kind of music do you sing?
@adnap4 жыл бұрын
Soprano Notes This is actually my music channel where I do various covers and there are all kinds of different genres represented within. I’m not classically trained or taught, but I have natural ability. I’m also not as warmed up as I was before all of this indoor living. I’m sure I could be better if I had a vocal trainer, so please bear that in mind should you decide to venture there. 😊
@adnap4 жыл бұрын
Soprano Notes I’m not 100% sure on this, as I’d have to do a lot of research, but I believe Mariah’s lowest note ever was an E2, which is ridiculous. But did you know that her highest was a C8 ? (Yes, that’s right, the last note on a piano.

what i really love is your thorough explanation of technique. Mariah's voice can be thought of as mysterious because of the nodules she later developed, and people like to write her off as having been a singer with bad technique and just natural ability. I don't believe that at all. Clearly to produce the sounds she does consistently, she has to have a certain level of mastery of technique... To hear someone break it down, is very refreshing.
@jessicasopranonotes4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad I could help, even in the slightest! Her voice is incredible and it always amazes me how quickly people dismiss singers. We're humans and change is inevitable. But respect should be given where it's due, and she absolutely deserves so much respect for the music she's given over her career.
@jared39704 жыл бұрын
Her mother said she actually had nodules since she was a little girl! So it’s natural that her voice isn’t the same. She’s still one of the greatest singers to this day though and you should check out some accapellas she posted on her Instagram a few months ago.

@@jared3970 I didn't know that! And of course, everyone's voice changes with time. It's sad when people don't understand that and expect to hear the same voice from 20+ years before. I don't have instagram but I will see if I can still see those posts, thanks!

Loved your reaction❤️ Mariah is a legend. Her career/achievements are unmatchable. She truly inspired a whole generation of singers. I mean even the Legendary Stevie Wonder. Who said “When people talk about the great influential singers, they talk about Aretha, Whitney and Mariah”. Not to mention having 19 #1 hits on the Billboard hot 100 (Most by any solo artist in history) and being one of the best selling artist of all-time. She is more than just whistle notes. She creates her music. Writes her songs. She has actually Written or co-written most of the songs that has ever appeared on her albums. And is acknowledged by the World Music Awards, as the biggest-selling recording artist of the Millennium (1990-1999). Five-time Grammy Award Winner. She’s one of the best female vocalist of all time. Thank you so much for your professional reaction to Mariah singing "If It's Over." I refuse to listen to negative reaction to one of the world's greatest singers. You were so generous with your comments and I do appreciate that. You explained about the delivery of her vowels and I needed that because I didn't know how to do that on my own, I am merely a listener. She sings with such a pronounced sensitivity that It sometimes causes me to tear up. No female singer reaches the core of my soul quite like Mariah, and at times it seems as though she is singing to each audience member individually and not as a group. I would suggest to you that you listen to her singing this on MTV unplugged, it's a wow. Once again, THANK YOU!

I grew up singing in church, though I had a "churchy" voice by others' accounts b4 I even joined the choir, but I did take formal voice lessons for a year/year & a half from a professional opera singer from Turkey, so I understand some of the basics you speak of. It's always fascinating 4 me 2 hear someone breakdown & explain the mechanics of somethin seemingly supernatural that appears 2 operate by "magic," be given logic & context. This is also why I love to learn about metaphysics cuz what seems mystical, when (IF it is able 2B @ all) broken down to its base parts, is actually just science that most of us are unaware of how it operates. Cuz after all, meta-physics, as the name implies, DOES involve physics --- it's just a level of physics that is ABOVE ( i.e., "meta,") our CURRENT understanding of physics. But it's physics, nonetheless. In essence, the "magic" precocious singers like Mariah & Whitney & Stephanie Mills are able 2 produce is simply due to the fact that somehow, they are able to naturally perform the technical feats that 99% of the population has to train to be able to do. And I think a lot of classical singers (you're excluded, of course) don't give Mariah & singers like her proper credit because they have this notion stuck in their minds that if you did not martriculate through a formal musical education (same can be said of some theatre thespians & their view of untrained film actors) then it invalidates the soundness your talent. When in the end, it doesn't really matter how Mariah does it; the fact is, @ the end of the day---- SHE CAN DO IT!!
