I just bought my first Pilea, and it’s already putting out babies. I think this aggressive growth habit would lend itself very well to a hanging basket , since it would probably fill out the container top to bottom; thus saving space from not having to separate a pot with limited growing area.

How was it packed for shipping?
@dominickjohnson25485 жыл бұрын
So for shipping plants I dont have a lot of experience but depending on how strong the plant is but it doesn't need much. All you need is a sturdy box and packing paper line the bottom with it so it doesn't spill dirt out of the box. Then just put the plant in and (if you want) wrap the pot with packing paper too. Then cover with some packing peanuts and you should be set. This worked for me! I really hoped this helps!

@janineharness-rennebu88284 жыл бұрын
My story of the Pilea started with a teeny tiny baby propagation in a cuttings package from EBay which included 20 other tropical plant leaf/stem varieties. My pilea was so small (it was dried lentil size a pair of newly sprouted leaves and 1/8" stem...no roots) now I too have many babies from that plant. These are in a North East facing window only, no " grow lights" here in Northern Nevada hot/cold dry desert. Thanks for sharing your story and plants. My next new plant will be a ZZ ...Aglaonema aka, Chinese Evergreen plants were my most expensive complete fail ...horrible! Goodluck with your pileas.
@TechplantChannel4 жыл бұрын

I was not surprised t hear about pilea p. It is a prolific plant. I have one that the center is close to thirty inches tall and the numerous babies are twelve inches tall. My problem is the weak stems. I have put in stakes to keep it upright. I like the shape of the leaves and am down to two pots. I have given several to people but you seem to be in a conundrum! They do take up space under lights. Mine are not under lights but have southern exposure. Fun to see your collection.

I like how you go straight to the point and try to keep you videos around 10 to 15 minutes. Each video is always informative on what is currently working for you. Keep the videos coming. I have never purchased plants online. Most of what I like I can purchase locally at reasonable prices. I checked Etsy out for plants and thought prices were to high, especially for single nod cuttings.

Definetly start an Etsy shop. If you have Offer Up or another service like that then sell those babies. It will alsohelp your future plant buying budget. Look up plant exchanges in your demographic. You could trade the babies for plants you dont have to add to your collection. You are such a good plant daddy!
@MarkSeydel5 жыл бұрын
OMG! I would kill, well, not really, for one of these! Beautiful! Also - What I see people have a lot of success with as far as shipping is to wrap the plants in strong brown paper. Many people simply have them in plastic bags in moss or soil and then wrapped in strong paper. Try watching an unboxing video of Steve's leaves. They package their plants perfectly. YES, open an Etsy store!

I fell in love with them right away,they remind me of lilypads. The pileas were hard to find and when they showed up they were in rough shape. I finally got one and stopped paying attention to them in stores. I've gone to three plant places today,one boutique-y kind,and two big box. They are everywhere! It reminded me of the Star trek episode,'The trouble with tribbles'( I think) The lesson being: careful what you wish for!! I am now feeling a certain kind of fear and awe for mine,lol! 🐣🐰Happy Easter!🐇🐥

I feel like the reason yours are multiplying so rapidly is because of your grow lights, I’m sure not everyone will get the same reaction from just buying it to have as just a houseplant especially considering how the lighting in everyone’s home is disbursed. I have bought a plant on amazon, it was actually a philodendron so I’m sure you could do it! Maybe check out some other videos on KZbin for shipping plants, there has to be some content in here somewhere lol good luck with your plants!

Shipping advice: cover the soil in the pot with newspaper or paper towel and then cover with tape so no soil falls out. The soil can be damp, but always keep the stem and leaves dry: moisture + no light (in a parcel) = rot. Stake vulnerable plants and fill up the shipping box with more newspaper to keep from cold and damage: shipping equals boxes being thrown around. You might even want to fortify your box with same size stakes in all 4 corners. For bare root plants: same thing, i.e. roots packed in sphagnum, surround with wet kitchen towels and pack (only roots!) tightly in plastic. I've had very delicate plants, packed like this, be in transit for 10 days with no stress or damage. Do not ship tropical plants when it is freezing!

Etsy is great and they have a good rep. I've bought many things there including Air plants and seeds. Contact them for info. Try sending one to yourself and maybe someone further away that would cooperate and let you know how it arrived. These plants are light so I'm thinking a mini pot wrapped in the smaller size bubble wrap. Dollar Tree sells plastic pots in season 6 for $1. Estimate your costs: boxes, tape, bubble wrap, labels, shipping (get a shipping zone chart from your local PO), and a bit of profit for your time Labels are cheap and can be printed off by you. Look at uline prices for boxes (you'll likely find a good deal if you are creative with the size). You can get shipping tape cheap because there's no weight to your boxes. Shop it. Shop the bubble wrap and labels too you won't need a lot of either unless you are successful with your baby making.. Finally, collect newspaper for stuffing. USPS is terrible here but the most cost effective. You can also talk with a local biz that manages his own ebay or Etsy account. I've seen signs in Mailbox store windows here, "we ship your ebay..." Go for it and Good Luck! P.S. I'd buy one!!! 😊 Joanne

I’ve purchased a few plants from Etsy & overall, I feel it’s been a good experience. I think the plant that died was related to the cold weather shock. I realize I'm late to this video (sorry, new subbie here. I've been binge watching your content 😅) but if you don't do an Etsy shop, you should consider trying to sell on Offer Up if they have it in your area! I buy plants through the app all the time. My area (Houston, Texas) has a lot of local plant lovers who grow plants, and either have too many or just like to sell successful propagations. That could be an easy way to help give the plant babies new homes! I'm sure they're all fully grown by now lol

That is a VERY cute plant...why not just put momma and babies together into a WAY bigger lightweight pot ???? I've seen them with bigger leaves and they are adoreable.
