Okay, I'm going to agree with you only because back in Sept of 2023 I bought a 2010 jetta TDI DSG with 145kmiles (current:153k). The original owners hadn't done a timing change, so I know I needed to do that. Then... some other things came up, like the rattling of the DMF. Changed that, and then the "throttle body". I'm glad I bought the car for only 5k. For these cars I'd recommend to people who can do the work themselves because having a shop do it is expensive. The newer 6speed dsg's were refined more and are a whole lot more smoother. Mines, a bit jolty, but not to bad. You'll also might experience the Dsg downshift click. For the emissions cars I'd recommend delete and tuning, or just tuning. I have not done that yet since I live in southern/central CA. Though I could probably get away with KermaTDI. I did take it on a 2000mile road trip. The car did great, and doesn't have an issue cruising 75mph up 6% grades.

Bought a 2014 tdi with 130 000 miles on it. Previous owners did not change their coolant enough or ever, and I wound up with a plugged heater core. Had to change it. Also put a 2 micron filtering system into it incase the cp4 blows up. I can get 47 mpg hand calculated in the winter on long drives going 55mph. The car is not deleted. Car has been decent otherwise. Edit: I replaced the water pump and timing system as well. If you are able to wrench on these cars yourself, it is alot cheaper.

In Australia we delete DPF and EGR and do 300k+ miles easy on VW 2.0 TDI's

I have a 2014 Passat TDI and i absolutely love it. Regular maintenance and coming up to 100k miles and the common water pump and timing chain. It’s my daily driver to work which I drive 50 miles every 3rd day to work. Much more room in the back seat.

Are you related to Lee Hummel from NAPA? If yes, I worked with him in Middletown, DE.

Nope not that I am aware of. We use Hummel's Auto Body for our projects but we aren't related.

The ignition switch (the lock and tumbler inside the steering column. Where the key goes) is a POS. I've had multiple problems (3). Costing almost $2Gs. 90,000 miles. 2.5l gas, 5 speed manual. Oh and AC control valve has went out twice. All in under 2 years. I fucking hate this car.

Probably the area where you live isnt gentle with cars. Any rust on your jetta? My 2012 2.5 Jetta it’s just about to hit 151k miles. Only crankshaft sensor and N80 purge valve been replaced.
