I absolutely love both, but the DIY for this space works much better. It also makes me want to do a version of it with dark wood with brush paint on the top (like snow on mountains) and then jewelry chains (instead of the braids) for a more expensive/industrial look. Really love this show! You ladies give me so many ideas for my own home :)

Both great but DIY edged out! I would prefer the wood shelf mountains have a wood stain to offset the super neutral palette but that’s a personal preference. Full disclosure- i did a similar wall grid with pieces from daiso and it comes with hooked wire shelves - super duper cheap! Used the same gold clips- 10 for $1.50 at daiso!

DIY for sure. It covered the brief and is unique, and beautiful. The metal racks are good when you are on a very tight budget and your no good with building your own.

This was so precious! Honestly, Dani when I saw those mountains and you talked about it being a touch of home it seriously made me want to cry. I'm just about to move to Kenya and it made me think that I seriously need to figure out how to DIY a bit of Canada to take with me. I think this might be one of my fav episodes so far. WOW! Both of these were right on...this is my fav episode so far (granted I've only watched about 10). I would have narrowly gone with the DIY as well, but since I'm not on this show, why choose?! I have wall space for both & really think I need both of these lol. I don't have a miter saw, but could either use 3 small square shelves I already own for now & set up the braided strings for photos. I just LOVE the added touch of the crystals at the bottom. I also love how versatile & customizable the buy is & that it allows you to hang tons of stuff with minimal holes in the wall. .

For this very personal, "beat homesickness" wall feature, I chose DIY! I would upgrade one small part of the wall feature. I would take the yarn braid and replace it with hand-twisted yarn CORD. Twisted cord can be made from any ( and many ) types of yarn, twine, ribbob, etc. Check out videos on Twisted Yarn Cord Methods of Machines...some will make you feel like a kids again!

For both the client can easily switch out plants, trinkets, images to really personalize them. When I first saw Dani's idea I thought it'd be too boho or quirky for the extremely minimalist room (even though I personally like boho and quirky). But it being all white and the California nostalgia description (I'm nostalgic for California too and sucker for crystals though decor is all about the client, not me) sold me and sold the client. Alexandra's was a solid, clean line, minimalist, practical option too, though wonder if it was a bit small; would two of it look good together?
