Rehousing and habitat transfers can be one of the riskiest undertakings (also habitat cleaning can sometimes be sketchy). I now only try to move them to a habitat that is large enough to put the transport or previous container in. It can still be risky, but I try to be as hands-off as possible, for the spider's sake as well as mine😁

C darlingi and A ezendami were my second and third old world T's, I told my seller it's like dealing with a thumb sized xenomorph the way crickets get grabbed and taken in to their lairs never to be seen again. although I think it's the rush that's part of the reason why I like them the way I do.

I once lost a Starburst Marmalade Baboon sling in my parents bathroom. It went between the floorboards . Never seen again! I got back from an expo after buying stacks of reptiles and kit. As I was leaving a really pretty girl stopped me and engaged me in spider talk. She then said I could have a 50% discount on her slings. I bought one as it was 60 quid and I didn't have any old world spiders just a Velvet black , a Red knee, a Chile and a Chaco gold knee. After calling at mums to use the loo after s 3 hour drive home. I had thr sling in my shirt pocket and while not reading, decided to examine my new prize buy. It was hidden , so taking off the lid and blowing gently not working, I saw a toothbrush and tried to part the moss. Like lightning it was up the side and fell on my leg very near the vegetables. In panic I tried to stop it going between my legs into the loo and it fell off . Before I could stand it went down a crack in the floorboard. A few years later my leopard gecko community tank was left open by my niece overnight. 16; geckos under the floor. Took 5: weeks to get them all back. Underpant nets most effective! 🤠👍💀🇬🇧

I do not have tarantulas as pets but it looks like if you get a large, steep sided basin to do transfers in you could cut down on the chance of your cuties escaping.

I rehouse spiders in 10 gallon fish tanks so if they get out of the vial and not in the new enclosure they aren’t just running loose in the house. I learned that after losing an H. mac trying to rehouse her.
