Tips on getting earlier dates: Once you know your practical date, you can login to portal next day / regularly to check for cancelled slot/appointment and take it. Learning to drive back home before coming to UK can be a double edge sword. You can inherit bad driving habit that is difficult to unlearn. My cousin who is supposed to be an excellent driver in Naija with years of exp, failed his UK driving practical 5 times and gave up (all from bad habits). For those who understand cars, you can get good deals from car auctions.

Yes you need your national driver's license alongside the international driver's license.

Yes please. International drivers licence only allows you drive in the Uk for 1 year (Legally).

The engine size of the car affects the insurance, road tax, and fuel consumption. If possible, stick to a 1.6 engine maximum to reduce these costs. And if you can avoid diesel engine as it incur more costs stated above.

Hello this is Olabanji(we met at Derby train station with my family on ur way to London), I am at this phase now to buy a car. Which would you advice is cheaper to maintain? Manual or Auto in UK? I thrive with both Manual and Auto but my wife does Auto. Is it worth it to make her learn manual just to cut cost ? Or we outrightly just explore automatic? Lastly , have you got infos of auto within 1,500 max budget? Thanks and weldone u keep making the UK journey simplified for a lot of us.

Cars with manual transmission are generally cheaper to maintain than their automatic counterparts. I would advice that you go with a manual transmission car (your wife can learn how to drive it too) because in the long run, when you might need to change your car later, you may find a good-deal-manual car and at that point, you don’t want your wife’s inability to drive a manual car hinder you from getting it.

Also, it’s pretty rare to find a good car with automatic transmission for under £1,500
