Recently got a Mace Windu saber from Jedi Masters and I love it, only issue is that there isn't any LED around the buttons so I have no way of knowing how many "flashes" there are when trying to go through settings. Mildly annoying but once you get used to the timing its not that bad.

Is it only RGB blades that seem to be dimmer towards the tip of the blade than at the base?

Yes because the RGB saber's light is emitted from the hilt. So that is why Neopixels are more expensive, their blades will have the lights along the inside of the blade allowing for consistent and greater brightness throughout the blade.
