I‘m a Music/Media Student that recently got a job as a video Editor as well. Meaning I use a lot of Logic, Final Cut and Premiere Pro. In the beginning of 2021, I bought myself the base model of the MacBook Air, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of Storage. Literally any of the tasks life through at me it handled like a knife cutting butter. I edited 4K Videos before on a friends MacBook Pro (8GB of RAM, i7, 2019 Model) and I could not playback anything fluently ever. I always wanted to someday buy myself like the 4000$ Version of the 16 inch MacBook Pro to maybe handle Video Editing more smoothly. But this 1000$ machine literally changed everything. Editing is soo smooth, that I can’t believe it doesn’t even have a fan. I edited the other day for almost 10 hours straight, without charging ones and with it not even getting warm. My friends MacBook would have already felt like it’s exploding at that point. When the M1 Max came out, the consumer in me, wanted to save up again to buy the biggest version one day. But quickly I realised, that at least by now, I don’t think I would even notice a big difference in the performance, which is pretty ridiculous to say about a machine that costs only a fourth of the price!

Dave delivers it again. I always watch from beginning to the end, because the presentation is always neat. data graphs, personal opinion, and customer consideration is all mixed into a great presentation. respect for dave for promoting 'due dilligence'. we all should do our own research instead of letting our purchase decision taken by youtuber or news influence. the last message is also gold, "there's no point in choosing the best time to buy something futureproof, if you need something, just buy it with your budget, and get your problem done. it will save a lot of headache".

The problem is that companies completely disagree. Advertising and social media work to do nothing more than make people mindlessly buy products. It doesn't help that there's such a learning curve to buying a laptop good for your needs. The first time someone purchases a laptop they need to do a lot of research just to understand how much is a good of amount of gb much less on processors, prices, etc.

I love how consistent Dave is with his advice, if you're in need of a new device, just get it now. Of course if you're 2-4 weeks away from a new launch, then I think that's an okay time frame to wait, but if you're monthss away, it's not something to be stressing over. Fact is the tech industry is always evolving, you wait 3 months for the new product only to find out that a newer product is launching in 9 months.

Thanks for the video Dace ! I got myself the 14 inch macbook pro with 10 +14 cores, everything else is base. Since I upgraded from a mid 2012 retina MBP, it was a HUGE upgrade for me and I'm loving it so far ! Only gripe I have is I wish the battery life was a bit better, but other than that everything else is amazing !

I really love how practically you explain the purchase decisions and i honestly really respect your viewpoint on ‘future-proofing’ which you said at the end of the video, cause thats what even i feel. People always try to future proof their device, when in just 2 years, there’ll be machines 3-4x as powerful as the current ones. So the term future proofing shouldn’t even exist.

I work as a ML engineer, training large neural nets. Oddly enough, a lightweight ultrabook is an ideal workstation for me - I only do coding on laptop (sometime plugging it to larger monitor), and execute the jobs on the cloud. I've been always a Linux user. But the new M1 lineup seriously made me consider buying a Mac (Air). I'm just waiting for deep learning libraries to pick up on M1 arch (so that I can write code on it)! This new Mac is so good!

Does tensorflow and & g++ work on MacBook M1 8gb
@lucass8119
@lucass8119 2 жыл бұрын
@@pavankarke7246 Tensorflow does, apple has official documentation on their website. GCC and all the subcompilers though is a different story. Apple uses CLang for their C compilers. You can run g++ on the macbook, but it's just a symbolic link to CLang. This probably doesn't matter though. A compiler is a compiler, and they should all conform to the language standard. The only one that sometimes doesn't is Visual C Compiler. I believe you can install GCC on mac via homebrew - or atleast you were able to at one point, I don't know with M1. Unless you legitimately use Gnu extensions in your C++ code, you won't notice the difference between CLang and GCC. Also, CLang has better error messages and (might) be slightly faster. That being said, I never see anyone use Gnu extensions in their C++ code. I've used them before in C code to do some neat generic object stuff, but C++ has generic (template) types built into the language.
