You’ve still got half a tank of 9 year old varnish filling the fuel tank, plugging the filter, probably trashing the fuel pump AND gumming up the injectors.

It blows my mind why people try to start vehicles that have been sitting for years. Gasoline has a sealed shelf life of 3 years. High ethanol fuels much less. If the container that the Gasoline is stored in is not completely sealed. The viability drops off substantially after 3 months.

Yeah.. timing.. sounds like mine when the timing chain guide broke.. so one bank skipped a gear.. since it’s cylinder 1 ,3 and 5.. it’s one bank .. the car throw a blinking engine light.. and goes away and come back again.. and exhaust sounded like a Harley, rough on idle, when in gear sometimes it died coz the engine is down in power.. good luck!! I finally got a Boxster watching you guys!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥.. if you test the compression, you will know one side is holding like 30-35%less than the other bank.. hopefully nothing catastrophic..
@stampedetrail20035 ай бұрын
Plausible. Checking the used engine oil would probably indicate a worn out chain guide. If it sat for a long time with old oil and not driven that could certainly happen. I would expect if it's out of time though that the engine would self destruct. On my 2000 it was an air oil separator and bad O2 sensor that caused misfires. But if I had to put money on it I'd say it's a bad head gasket on one bank.

Chased a similar misfire on my 986 S. Did new coil packs, plugs, maf, swapped packs around to chase the misfire, etc. It up being a leak in intake (similar to what you saw with the intake clamp) where one of the boots wasn’t properly installed all the way around and was sucking in air past the maf. Smoke test found it so quickly!

Unplugging the MAF sensor causes the engine to run in speed density. Also, low coolant DTC, plus misfiring on adjacent cyinders leads me to believe it could be a head gasket. I would do a check on the coolant to see if it had engine gases in it. If it is not a head gasket, could be an injector issue on that bank of cylinders. (I highly doubt it skipped time, it wouldn't run on a loss of an entire bank of cylinders) So, in increasing level of difficulty I'd try 1. check coolant for exhaust gas 2. wiring harness to injectors (if the mice got the harness to the water temp sensor, they could have gotten to anything) 3. compression check 4. pull injectors to see if they are dirty
@RatherBeRestoring5 ай бұрын

I enjoy the cheap Boxster rescue vids. Check wiring to the coil packs. If the mice chewed some of the loom it could explain the misfires. it is also possible to get back packs from time to time. I wouldn't expect that though. Clogged injectors or corroded injectors is a good possibility as well as the crappy gas in the tank. Perhaps drain and clean the tank and filter.

I've just rebuild a mis-firing Boxster, albeit a 2.5, not a 3.2 S. The issue was the chain guides which are plastic and perish, leading to a stretched chain. The other possibility is the variocam actuator which is designed to change the timing when under load but could be stuck so at low revs, the chain (and therefore the timing) is under incorrect tension.
@herrrechtschreibpruefung5 ай бұрын
Missfire cyl 3 on my 3.4 996. Porsche dealer had put new tensioners in and did the chains back in misaligned by one tooth on the cams. Can be checked with the computer by activating the variocam solenoids

@DanDan_and_the_boys5 ай бұрын
I’d say injectors or possibly the mice chewed through a coil harness and it’s causing misfiring due to that. Likely that it being compression on a lower mile engine is very slim and timing is in the same boat. If it’s not been tampered with and no sig s if tampering then likelihood it’s not that. I’m sure you folks done know what it is and y’all are stringing everyone along for comment and video sake.

Buying a car that sits is risky business, especially from New Jersey. The oil will seep completely out of the engine after about a month. Then the engine parts have no protection, they can start to corrode. Once you try to start it back up, the pistons move and it causes pitting where it removed the rust. You will lose compression and have oil leaks... it is bad news.

All used cars loose value. Especially expensive cars, so whats your point? Just means there are really nice used cheap cars to buy. An old high milage EV is going to cost next to nothing to keep running vs an ICE car, so once people realize this, high milage EV´s is going to be very popular. I used to change my ICE cars every 2-3 years due to high milage (40.000 km) per year. I am now on my second EV (BMW i5) and will drive it to well beyond 300-400.000 km and save +60.000 euro in fuel costs and low service costs in that time 🙂
