Great video, one key point to check when looking at a used EV, does it have a heat pump? Because it will help the winter efficiency no end. And if it does have a heat pump check that you're getting good levels of both heating and cooling in the cabin. Because the heat pump also heats and cools the battery keeping it in the sweet spot temperature range during charging which is important to battery longevity.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
Yes, although so many seem unfussed about a heat pump - it's a must have for me

I would wait until the end of 2024. 190,000 company cars will be added to the EV 2nd hand stock. currently there is 16,000 cars available on Auto trader and this is increasing as the 2020 company cars are being released. By the end of 2024 250,000 cars will be released to the market with 250,000 to be released every year after. We have reached the company car saturation point of 250, 000 to 300,000 cars a year (800,000 cars on a 3 year cycle) so they’ll be plenty if you wait. Depreciation is bad now on all BEVs but with 190,000 cars added to the market will there be a larger uptake or fields of un sold cars.

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru the market for EVs is weak. I don’t know many private dealers excepting them. I know that my local BMW franchise will not accept any EV trade ins on ICE (there is support for BEV to BEV trade ins ) or early PCP returns. ICE prices continue to climb month on month. If BEVs don’t sell in the 2nd hand market the finance rates will rocket due to depreciation and kill the private market. Company car adoption will remain at 250 to 300k due to subsidies.
@tobycolin6271 Жыл бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru it’s worse than I thought if you add in the Hybrids and BEVs there are just 40,000 cars currently for sale on Autotrader we are only half way through the 60,000 cars released from the company car and PCP schemes.

Great video thanks. Ive been stung by buying a Cat S used van in recent years due to not checking it- and I found myself nearly making the same mistake again with an EV on Autotrader. There are a lot of these around...

I would ask an open question about the kinds of journeys the car has usually been used for , and whether tge car us routinely charged at home. This would be in order to infer how much supercharger use, as they are bad for battery longevity if used often.

Why is it not mandatory for all checks on vehicles to include damage areas etc ,if v check and car vertical can do it so can others and must be forced to do so by law
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
I really don’t understand it; simpler still, make the insurance company record every write off with MIAFTR rather than it being optional.

Would you recommend buying an N CAT vehicle or woukd you steer clear of it ?
@DefinitelyNotAGuru5 күн бұрын
Depends on the quality of the repair and the severity of the original damage but many Cat N’s are pretty superficial damage. It can be more difficult to sell them on so I’d want a really good discount vs a non-cat car.

How long do tyres last on an EV? My sister has just had the first MOT on her Mini EV at just over 10,000 miles and has been advised to change all 4 tyres
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Жыл бұрын
A lot depends on how you drive it so it's impossible to say. If you're flooring it every 2 mins then they won't last long. In normal driving you'd expect them to wear a bit quicker than a similar sized petrol or diesel as the car is usually a fair bit heavier (due to battery weight).
@bordersw1239 Жыл бұрын
Good question - quite a few I’ve parked next to I’ve noticed have serious tyre issues - maybe it’s the lease companies refusing to change until 1.6mm but I’ve seen several with bad outer wear.
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru It can also depend on the type of roads and the state of them Jim. I once knew a guy who did overnight courier work with a Merc Sprinter van. Almost all motorway work. His tyres lasted really well, compared to my car, driven on rougher country roads most of the time..... I'd suggest a set of tyres required at 10k miles might suggest some enthusiastic driving.....

Do you see EV’s prices recovering, or do you think EV’s will continue to have poor residuals? 🤔
