the lx570 (J200) is more comfortable and more practical, the G class is on the other side a better off-roader with great history, both of these cars are reliable, but the spare parts are expensive so if you want a car with badass image, great history and outstanding off road capablility then buy a G class and if you want a more "civilized" car then buy the lx570

I have a 2002 G500 with 117k miles. Some off road use from previous owner, decent condition, has NEVER gave me any problems. 5 years of ownership nothing EVER broke and the only money I've spent was for upgrades, gas, and regular service. This video doesn't do it justice this is the last REAL Mercedes built and and is a very reliable car. Def check for rust though.

You forgot the rust problems on the second lifting of the 463 (around 2004). We had to repaint the whole car. We already swapped 2 turbochargers on the 400cdi (340k km) and there is a common problem with the sound system amp. It is located behind the rear light housing and water can get to it even through a smallest crack in the fixture. If you have this car I suggest checking for water damage there and adding some waterproofing (there is a coating that you can put on the logic boards).

I think one of those older models would be fun, change the motor out to something around 300 hp and give it a modern paint along and throw some larger tires/wheels on it. Just something to play around in instead of getting my G63 dirty :)

@@bikerman6907 only issue I have had is the the axle and shock support point is. The factory support is a bit weak. Found a local welder that cleaned up the rust and increased the strength of the mounting point. A few superficial spots but is actually in great shape and my vehicle is nearly 20 years on the road being an '02.

@@nosoupforyou425 so no rust on the body? I am in the process of buying a 2006 G55 AMG with only 30000 km on the clock. Imported from Japan. Gonna look at it tomorrow. The sales guy says it is in mint condtion. Fingers crossed.

I’m thinking of buying a 2002-2010 G class G500. Most I find have super high miles ( over 150000) but the price of these don’t seem to match the mileage. My question is, are these just that reliable? With that many miles are they worth 30, 40, and I’m some cases 50 thousand dollars? I realize that the mileage is normal for the age but do these prices make sense?

it doesn't matter if you choose the swb or lwb version, the g300 has a reliable engine to the common problems, well there aren't many, just check mainly the differentials and the electronics

The ECU:s are there probably because of lack of space. It's not as big as a Landcruiser or Suburban.

The OM 617 is bullet proof and the v8 engine from 98-02 used is a modest HP the OM 603 is junk. Guy does not know his engines.
