As in this case you would have to check if you have a proper stay permit in Indonesia. Second, how many Are did you purchase and where is the location of this land? Hi there, Thank you for your inquiry. Foreigners can invest and own property in Bali, but you cannot own the freehold as a foreigner unless you do it through a local limited company. Unfortunately, you cannot get a mortgage there unless you are local, so, overseas buyers like yourself need to sort out their financing in their country of residence. Then, depending on the location and zoning of land there are a few different options on operational permits. In most cases a so-called villa permit. If you buying a land and building, it takes somewhere between 8 - 12 months (can be longer it depends) for the whole process, from getting the licenses, clearing the land, engaging the architects, sourcing the contractors and hiring the builders. Renting the house/apartment is the best option for foreigner. Foreigner can not buy/own the land or the villa but lease ( to use ) .If you build a house on the land you lease , The owner of the land will own it when the lease ends.

@@bosur8468 I am sure you are aware that lease is not a title (hak sewa) while Hak Pakai and HGB are primary ownership also held by many Indonesians, and there is no underlaying freehold title that it ever converts back to. So to illustrate simply. if I buy a property from an Indonesian, convert to either a Hak Pakai or HGB, in my name or company name. Then later sell to an Indonesian it gets converted back to freehold. At what stage did I not own the property?
