Plus additinal to engine issues: headliner failure in all VAGs; MULTIPLE sensor failures, inc. yes the ESP module in the ABS block (i.e. not merely faults); auxiliary heater very early failure (solder joints?); front severe (inner?) tyre wear where camber (which can't easily be adjusted and most tyre / tracking places and mechs won't even touch) goes way out (and then needs a compromise setting between that and caster? (but change (and upgrade) both control arm bushings at the same time as fixing this?).... etc...

The advice should be, that since they didn’t design the pistons correctly , also the intake manifold timing chain, tensioner, coil packs, is there anything they did design right on this GEN 2.0 TFSI Ea888, and then they burn oil as the oil ring fills with carbon, Don’t buy it unless you are willing to put in a new engine. I own one and feel like Audi screwed every owner , because their engineering has created a nightmare for owners that they walk away from as is typical of VAG.

A diesel engine has a stronger built than a petrol. Also the driving characteristics are different, a diesel you drive more on torque base, a petrol engine needs more revs for acceleration. It also depends on the miles you plan to do each year. A diesel is more economical when you drive a lot. Hope that answers your question.

Why are these diesels less reliable than the previous generation?
@John_Stur5 жыл бұрын
Because they were made to need repairs. They wanted to sell even more equipment for replacements. And they wanted to earn even more money from their dealerships when you got them serviced there. It is all a strategy and that's why VW engines have come to suck in reliability. Fiat's diesel engines are the best in Europe right now. Even the French make more durable diesel engines than VW...

Terrible cheapo clutch master cylinder, and the slave cyls IN the gearbox, miss fluid changes at your peril, dsg auto boxes..change the atf, if possible MORE often than specified...certainly don't miss a change Ride not that clever on any models, all earlier Tdi's are prone to EGR and DPF blockages, definitely need a good hard run periodically....EGR actually not too hard to yank off and clean out tbh, shame you have to every two bloody seconds. Base models are SO base it's taking the piss, no lumbar, no steering wheel radio controls, no rear door pockets....nothing....your dad's old Cortina was as well appointed. Basically a slightly stretched Golf with bony suspension and no kit. The 3.2 is quick af....but the 170 diesel does it in roll on. Buy a really well serviced TDI, with decent options and chip it up to 210 bhp....a great 5 seater sleeper that will never show less than 40mpg. That's my choice anyway.
