Why does everyone call them betta-fish? They're bettas - period. This was an exercise in utter stupidity. 1. There's no heat. 2. The koi will eat them. 3. There are no shade plants for which to adhere the male's bubble nests for spawning, shade, or hiding - a very stressful environment. 4. Food??? 5. No folks, betta males only fight to the death in enclosed environments and often lose interest in fighting when one opponent's fins have been sufficiently torn and worn out. In an open territory a weaker male is simply vanquished. The stronger male does not run after the weaker to finishing it off. They are not stupid. 6. The male looks after the nest/spawn but chases off the female. Only in a closed environment does the female face harm with no place to run. So much disinformation by some commenters and absolute ignorance by the You Tuber, committed for clicks. Cannot even pronounce veil tails? P.S. We discontinued raising bettas when our fish began being put into those dam containers by our customers. The fun was over. In our hatchery we'd put males individually into our live-bearing, small tetra and other peaceful tanks. They became glorious in their freedom from being confined. Kudos to those who maintained their bettas for years.

You might be surprised. Bettas only fight to the death in small confined spaces. They'll defend territory viciously but if a betta can retreat they'll rarely even touch. Their territories aren't really big either, especially if you'd have a bunch of plants to break line of sight. They don't leave their own territory often. I mean, this many in a small bare pond with goldfish is a bad idea for sure, and unless the females outnumber the males a few times they'll get chased like crazy. But a betta pond is achievable.

dws7898 1 this is actually not true. Female betta don’t get eggy just because a male is present. A healthy female should be constantly producing eggs. Female only gets eggy if she has genetic eggy problems. There is never a scientific proof the so-called hormones causing eggy female. That’s why a male/female divided tank is acceptable. Some male betta fish kill the females. Any betta breeder knows to pair a female betta with a single smaller male and give them time to get used to each other. Or fights brake out.

Bettas also need hiding space like floating plants to feel more secure. Also they prefer water temperature 80 - 85° F. Whereas goldfish & koi prefer 60 - 70° F & can survive anything down to 34°F. Bettas also prefer water with a pH of 7 while goldfish prefer 7.5 pH. I definitely want an update video to show how/if it works out. Expert my @**. :/

When all the bettas are probably dead due to having to many in a small area- also that pond might look big- but bettas need to have space for at least each male to make a territory AND for the females to have maybe groups of four (give or take how many survive) and also be able to get away from the males bc the males and female do fight after breeding

Well we don’t really know if they will fight for females to the death. There may be some that tend to fluctuate when it comes to power and females. Like one year it may be 5 females to 1 specific male while 4 others are without females. Then the next year that 1 male may have 1 or none it’s a constantly fluctuating battle of power and females, like with lion prides and other wild animals. He isn’t doing it for his own sick amusement. He is doing it to try to make a large betta breeding pond. Yes it isn’t in the best spot with the other larger fish but he can still buy more females for the pond to keep the fighting and fluctuations of power at a lower level.

Ruth c The only error I see in this video is the fact that the koi might eat the beta. But if it weren’t for that, the betas should be fine. The pond is big enough and there are MULTIPLE betas. They may or may not fight in this environment. It just depends on the personality of the single fish.

Allan Birmantas I think males can get along if they’ve been raised up around each other in the same area of water or container. They are gathered from nature like that. But I think they have to b with each other from the very beginning of life. Maybe if they have plenty of room they may not fight? I have seen videos of them gathered, and they’re normally protected from direct sunlight
