couple things with this machine, the " throttle " lever is actually the choke, thats why it kept dropping back down, the switch on the left is actually for the low and high idle, not for vibrate, the vibrate switch is on top of the directional handle, the original motor for that is a honda gx610, i have the same machine and it works great

Hi Jesse. I had that problem when I was a mechanic for Briggs and Straton engines. To add more friction to the throttle lever, I used those friction washers, you know those wavy washers that you place between the lever and a flat washer. As you tighten the nut, the lever becomes more difficult to move and stay in place. wish that could help!

11/11/23...ya gotta give Noah his🛩 Pilots license for driving yur 'new' double drum center articulating 35 HP Whacker Roller (plate) Compactor...yup, it won't be long before he will be fixing, welding, Bulldozing, skiddsteering, excavator digging & building his new addition to your concrete house 🤣LoL! Much enjoyed your step-by-step verbal priority of improving this Roller/Compactor; from incorrect battery location contributing to cracked(?)> correction < severed hydraulic line, replacing this 5000 psi hose...carburator air filter housing, tricky exhaust manifold re-shape (bend removal) & re-attach (no leaks 👍), instsll new plastic contour hood, re-route new carb cable & new (5-pin) key/ignition module. Oh yea, love the quick splice-in showing your helping #1 son attach round 'cup' feeder inside his Rabbit cage...yup Jesse, your videos are wonderful to watch!😊🔧! Stay safe & carry on🙂🍺

The hydraulic steering in your roller has a pumping mechanism in it that moves oul without the engine running. These are very similar to the rotary valves used on forklifts, farm tractors and some rock crawlers. I built a small tractor with a Toyota Corolla engine and the factory power steering pump was adequate for the steering valve and John Deere hydraulic steering cylinder.

I just put a gx630 in my Skidloader, the stock governor is set super low, and it’s pretty easy to adjust. When you’re going full throttle, you’re fighting the Honda governor and that’s why it won’t stay. It’s also why most compactors have the twist throttle like an airplane has. I run one of those airplane throttle cables with a tach, cuz I don’t want no stinking governor telling me what to do!!! Supposedly there is a rev limiter built into the Honda CDI could do you can’t over rev them

I believe with the two smooth drums, that's actually a roller for asphalt (not to mention, aggregates and millings like you're putting in). The sprayer nozzles keep the hot asphalt from sticking to the drums. Seems like if you run the spay nozzles on dry powdery low clay dirt (maybe not so much on a road base), you'd create a muddy mess in the undercarriage, On larger areas to be compacted to provide optimum moisture content, they bring in a water truck to water down the site.

Hi Jesse recon I would get that button on the forward and reverse working for the vibration and the water working correctly then it would give you more control for laying tarmac and would certainly make it more appealing for a tarmac contractor on resale

re throttle cable: a friend had a similar problem on a large mower. He decided the internal cable what slides through he sheathing was too long. I don't recall how much he shortened it but on the second cut and re-bend it worked for him. I have no idea if such a mod would work for you. I just remember him saying the excess cable length was pushing the throttle back down.

You could glue some sound dampening mats on the inside of the cover around the heat shield foil to make it even quieter. I'd guess that's also how it was stock. What also make the cover heavier and therefore sit more stable. Aside from that you and Andrew seem to be on a (german) roll lately: Andrew with his Bomag and you with your Wacker Neuson. ;-)

Any machine with hydraulic steering will work without the engine running, most are just too heavy for you to use it. The piece by the steering wheel is essentially a hand operated hydraulic pump that provides fluid to the steering cylinder. With the engine running the fluid provided to that unit is pressurised, thus making it easier too steer.

Little Smooth drum packers are for compacting fine gravels or asphalt, the water is to keep the asphalt from sticking to the drum, not for gravel. Pad foot packers are for courser gravels and dirt.

There's a high mount muffler( you have that one) and a muffler that is lower profile than the current one. The engine model and serial numbers should be stamped into the block as well as those god awful stickers that the writing usually wipes off, when one does a degreasing of the machine. This should be on the side behind the starter.

All machines with hydraulic steering has what is called an orbitrol valve, it allows for proportional steering, but is also itself a small pump that can be used for emergency steering. Typically for larger machines, Gear reduction means you have to turn the steering wheel many times round when engine power is lost in order to steer.

Looks as if it's possibly missing the eng cover at the articulation side as well. Fabricating something to replace that would probably go a long way to even more sound reduction as well holding the two sides together at the back. You know for a future repair. Like you said not a priority right now.

Thoughts: Did you ask the person that you bought the roller from if he had other parts? I wonder if they had a hood/shroud, and maybe the old engine for parts. The hood in any condition is better than paying for the new one. Also can you buy bulk hardline using flared or Flareless Bite Type Fittings and get a bender? Another option is that if I go to one of our local hydraulic suppliers who has all the tools but no staff to do the work (a mirror image of a Harbor freight store except north of the border). Buy the pipe, O-rings, connectors we can assemble them onsite in the store for like $30 for a 3 foot hardline. We can do the same for hoses and they sell all sizes! They stock 88 hydraulic hardline connectors and 235 hydraulic hose connectors not to mention the adaptors to connect everything up.
