In this video we were weaning our Cheviot and blackie ewes. We pulled off all the lambs first and then split the ewe lambs out to go to different grass.
The ewe lambs will be kept for the winter and most will be used in our own flock.
The boys / wedder lambs will be fattened up and eventually go to market where they are generally sold to supermarkets / wholesale meat buyers.
We use the Rappa handling system here as it's fast to setup and easy to use for a simple shedding job.

ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Every time wee Jock "helps" my heart melts. To my completely non-expert eye Marissa is looking grand. After spending the summer watching shearing competitions I can see the right shapes and movements start to emerge from how she's moving.

Seeing Jock with one boot on, one boot off had me laughing out loud! At least I haven't seen him do what a lot of kids do - the minute your back is turned, off come the clothes, and then you find out how fast they can run. Marissa did a great job; patient and methodical. Speed will come along as she does it more. As usual Lizzie is in a state of perpetual motion, working and watching the kids. Cam, I know you do, too, but I gotta say... Lizzie is my hero!

I have a question..how often do you oil your blade’s when shearing? Do the blades get hot? …what memories y’all are going to have recorded of those precious moments of your babies childhoods to look back on later. I’m so proud of you Cammy. You are SOME DAD 🤍🤍🤍🥰 ( and Lizzie is SUPER MUM)

Marissa was doing fine. Although the weight is less, much easier to go get the positioning wrong and then end up struggling with lambs. So questionable as to which is most tiring. But each tiring day is one less in the future as her technique improves…

Marissa is a hard worker by the looks of it. The finesse of shearing will come with practice. Jock discarding a boot was funny. Sheep shit sock... Forward planning with major unknown factors involved is tough but if you don't gradually buy in new ewes and tups then you won't ever increase the numbers or improve the flock quality. Hopefully you have some decent weather for the rest of Autumn to keep them doing well on grass without too much extra feed. Onwards and upwards...
