Something that really changed my life is when my husband and I were starting out someone told us that $1000 is a lot of money to owe but not a lot of money to own. I think about that a lot for all sorts of amounts and before we decide to buy anything especially if it's financed. P.S. I use old B&B candle jars for my q-tips ;)

I’m wondering if it was hard for Katie, as a woman who came from a family that seems to be very well off, to accept and be “ok” with living a lifestyle of “less”? I grew up very similar with lots a financial blessings, and it’s been hard for me to accept my lower economic status as an adult and know I cant afford what I was accustomed to as a child. And how do you not compare and try and “keep” up with your sisters family who lives in a huge home like yours and your parents who have that beautiful, historic home?

@@CullenandKatie We had a very *challenging* second baby. Maybe much like Brooks. That first year with two kids under 2 was the hardest of my life parenting and marriage wise. ( We have three now. our second child turned three in November, oldest is 4.5 and youngest just turned 1) when I see pictures of us or our kids in that season it's like I've blocked it all out ( or we wouldn't have had a third kid right!? 😅😜). Sometimes things will trigger memories of those tough times. Even Xmas lights because baby #2 was born in November I just remembered the non stop crying from the baby and how helpless we all were. So you're absolutely right it's probably blurry now and also at the same time still fresh in a traumatic way. My husband and I hardly remember our second child being a baby now that we've come out of that though year.

I am completely in awe of you two. What you are doing is so brave. I just want to thank you for putting this intimate information out there for the world to see. It's scary to admit when you screw up and get in a bind. With KZbin families people that watch have the illusion that you don't face real life issues. This makes you human. We all mess up...financially, at work, at home. My husband and I have been doing Dave Ramsey's steps for over a year now. We have various envelopes to help us pay for the things that come along each year (HOA dues, insurance premiums, vacation, Christmas). It makes it so much easier to know that we have already accounted for those when they come due. This week I was able to pay off both credit cards, his remaining balance on his braces and a medical bill! It is so empowering when you can write "paid off" on the last statement! Thank you for what you're doing...it is changing people's lives! I have watched you for a few years and my son is just a little bit older than Brooks. It's always nice to see when you deal with things that I can relate too. Keep up the awesome work! It will be so rewarding.

I just wanted to say that these videos have truly changed my mindset about spending and how to get rid of my student loan debt. Also I’ve realized from watching this that ,yes ,you guys are holding yourself accountable, but also have to remember you’re in the public eye and sometimes that comes with a lot of pressure to stay current by basically having “nice stuff” because some people truly like that. Just want to remind you to not be so hard on yourself, it happens and when you realize it you fix it!

This is no accident. God had this planned all along. You went through relationship issues to learn how to have a stronger marriage while Cullen got sober. No offense, but before that your views were down and seemed to stay down. You found your true and happy inner self, a blessing alone. Now, because you have been so open, you feel you can be open now with this situation. Our grocery budget for family of 4 is 350 a month. $50 a week from target and $100 from Sam's. All we buy at Sam's is meat because we portion, vaccuum seal, and freeze it. That $100 usually lasts us 2 months. So the next month that $100 goes to toilet paper, tissues, detergent, kid snacks, etc. The last $50 is for going over occasionally and eating out.

I know you are on a budget journey, the budget mom’s budget by paycheck workbook is amazing. It gives you a place to account for everything. My in-law’s have a Sam’s Club membership, and we occasionally tag along with them when they go. The only things we buy from there on the regular are fruit snacks, freeze dried fruit, and applesauce pouches. All for our toddler. Those are the only things we, as a family of 4, realistically use all the way up and are a significantly better price than at the grocery store.

My husband and I have a membership at BJs we use it 6 times a year. When we get our income tax return every year we go to Bjs and Aldi and budget $1000 for both and go and stock up for as much household stuff for at least 6 months and aldi stock up on pantry items for 5 months. Another tip i do is write out your fav meals and then meal plan out your meals every time you go grocery shopping. You will save money, time and aggravation of planning it out.

Monthly recaps would be great and we're on a tight budget and love Costco we limit ourselves to $100 per week but shop by weekly so we split it between Costco $125 and Aldi $75 we are a family of 4 just like you the trick is to avoid alot of premade meals and meal prep and freeze our own meals to last for those lazy nights we don't eat out often and when we do it comes out of the grocery budget so it's usually not worth it. Our kids love homemade pizza night and taco/tex-mex night both dirt cheap and fun. We love buying in bulk for us definitely worth it. Good luck 👍 😁

Grocery shopping on a budget is hands down the most exhausting part to me! I love Walmart pick up because I have 4 kids (2 of them are under 2) but sometimes it’s not the most cost effective. We shop sales regularly, especially for our meat. It can be exhausting because one store has chicken breasts on sale but another has the ground beef so we go to 2 different stores. But it saves us so much money in the end!

I only have a Sams membership and what I have started doing is checking their sale ad they send out once a month or however often it is. I go through that ad and see what is on sale that we actually use all the time. Toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, snacks etc. I make a list of whatever items are on sale at that time and only purchase those items as needed. I put the blinders on and stay away from everything else. This helps me to not spend a ton and I stock up on the essentials. I've learned over time there are certain items that we always eat, so I will add those in every once in a while. My club is close to my Walmart that I get groceries at using their grocery pickup. I think that also helps with Sams because I know I don't have to buy everything at one time. I can spread it out over different shopping trips.
